V for Vendetta
Grade:
Forget Watchmen. Forget Swamp Thing. Forget Miracleman. V for Vendetta is hands down Alan Moore's best work. It's story does something something all of Moore's other work never did, put a truly frightning and realistic real world spin on the story.
The story of the anarchist V is told over 3 Books and dozens of chapters. However like all of Moore's work, everything is not so straight forward. Once we establish who V is, what is his mission. What does his relationship with Eve have to do with everything, it appears to have one meaning, but then a curve ball is thrown at you, then one more.
The story is complimented perfectly by David Lloyds art. (If he ever did a Batman title, I would pick it up no matter who wrote it, his work is that good) The book could be paced a little better, but then again the story is so powerful you probably won't notice the small flaws. Sometimes supporting characters have scenes, but then at the end of the story nothing ties them to the main plot, minor nitpicks.
You probably won't even notice the problems you're first time through. This is a story that requires, no demands, multiple readings. If you don't own this, you are missing out on one of the best, yet oddly underappreciated, graphic novels ever. Buy it without a second thought, you will be glad you did.
