Asgardian Wars
Grade: 1/2
Asgardian Wars is one rare trade paper back. It took me 6 months a vacation in LA to locate it. The book is 2 seprate stories that are slightly connected, by way of Loki wanting revenge in the second story for what occured in the first story. One story was a 2 issue limited series and the other ran in the New Mutants and X-men Annuals.
The first story is the best, involving the X-men and Alpha Flight discovering a fountain that can grant their greatest dreams and the choices they must make. The story is great, it moves smoothly and Paul Smiths art is not detailed but shows perfect pacing. The second story stars the New Mutants mostly, since I do not really know who the New Mutants are I did not enjoy this story as much. The story is also all over the map, unlike the tight pacing of the first, this one kind of rambles around then comes together at the end, but not very well. But the artwork allowed me to suffer through it. Art Adams amazing work is here and it looks as good as anything he does today. Chris Claremont wrote both stories and it is a little amazing because one is so perfectly paced and the other is all over the map.
Still, this is an excellent trade that any X-men fan would like to have on thier shelves. If only the first story had the Art Adams work and they just dropped the second, this would have easily been a 5 star book.
