NICKNAMES: Jackie, Jacks

AGE: 25

KNOWN RELATIVES: Older brother is Remy LeBeau (Gambit) of the X-Men. Their real parents have never been known. Jade was officially adopted by Jean-Luc LeBeau when she was 21. Her other family now includes the members of the Unified Guilds of New Orleans. She is engaged to be married to thief Emil Lapin.

ABILITIES: Aside from being a talented swordswoman, Jade is also a trapeze artist and a very skilled thief.

OTHER INFORMATION

MUTATIONS: The only noticable thing about Jade that makes her mutantness obvious is her eyes, which are purple-on-black (very much like her older brother's red-on-black eyes). Other than that fact, which she hides frequently with sunglasses, she appears to be a normal young woman. Or at least as normal as a person can be living in New Orleans.

MUTANT POWERS: Like Gambit, Jade has the ability to charge objects with biokinetic energy and cause them to explode upon impacting with another object. Her powers are much more developed than Gambit's, however. She never lost control of them as a teenager the way Gambit did. While Gambit can only use his powers by touch (although he had more developed powers towards the end of his comic series, but that changed back to the way it was before when he fought New Son), Jade is able to use hers by touch, or thought. She is much more powerful than her brother and has been known to blow up entire buildings. She is also a very good match for the Assassins, who never crossed her once they realized she could kick their butts.

PERSONALITY: Jade is a down-to-earth girl with an attitude. She says what she thinks, but unlike her fiance, she usually thinks it through first. She is serious but fun-loving. She is extremely loyal to her family and friends. She can be very sarcastic and bitchy, and she has a wicked temper, but she's mostly even-spirited. It might take a lot to get to know her, but once she calls you friend, it's for life. She would kill or be killed to keep her family/friends safe. It takes a lot to make her angry, but once she is, everyone around her knows it.

HISTORY

Jade was born in the early months of 1977, about a year after her older brother Remy. Unlike her brother, who was stolen from the hospital by the Thieves Guild because he was "le diable blanc" in their prophecies, Jade was abandoned by her mutant-hating father just days after her birth. Her mother died during childbirth. It is unclear what has happened to her father.

Jade was found in an alley in New Orleans' French Quarter after a dog discovered her and started barking up a fuss, causing a local resident to call the dogcatcher. The dogcatcher took the infant girl to the police, who in turn handed her over to the Department of Child and Family Services. Because she was a mutant, no one was willing to take her in as a foster child and she lived in an orphanage until she was three years old. She was then taken in by a wealthy family with three children of their own. They treated her like a slave, not even bothering to give her a name, for her entire duration at their home. She slept in a barely finished room in the basement and was given only the bare necessities to survive. One of the older children taught her to read and write, but that was it. To the family she was a mutant version of Cinderella...she did all their housework and never got a day to herself. She lived with them until she was eleven years old. After she realized she could blow things up, she waited until they all went out for the evening, packed up her few belongings and blew the door off the hinges. She never looked back.

She lived in the streets of New Orleans for six months, becoming an expert conartist and thief, stealing the things she needed to live from the stores. She lived in boxes in various alleys in the French Quarter, and when she needed money, she picked the pockets of the people who went out to the clubs and bars on Bourbon Street. It was during this time that she caught the attention of Jean-Luc LeBeau, patriarch of the Thieves Guild, but he did not approach her, in spite of his suspicions that she was related by birth to his adopted son, Remy. Not long after Jean-Luc saw the young girl, she disappeared from the city, having seen signs for the circus and decided to join them.

The circus people were mostlyhomeless mutants, so they understood the plight of the adolescent. The beautiful blonde bareback rider, Laura, started teaching the girl about things other than stealing and life on the streets. She also gave her the only name she'd ever had: Jade. Jade worked as part of the clean-up crew for the circus, but also trained heavily as a trapeze artist under Nikolai and Stefan, the two main trapeze showmen. Nikolai was trained in sword-fighting, while his cousin Stefan held a black belt in Akido; they also trained Jade in both those forms of fighting and defense as well. Before she was fourteen, Jade was a specialist in each thing her circus family taught her. She never forgot anything they told her, and when she was needed, she was part of the trapeze shows the circus put on as part of their act.

When Jade was sixteen, she was raped by a stranger while the circus was in Arizona. Nine months later, in Chicago, she gave birth to a baby girl, whom she named Isabella Hope and then promptly gave up for adoption. She never even saw her daughter once, and not a day goes by that Jade doesn't wonder if the little girl has a better life than her mother did.

Jade stayed with the circus until she was nearly twenty-one. She then decided to leave and head back to New Orleans and the street life she left behind. She befriended a young diner owner named Rene, who gave her free meals and good conversation. She also became friends with Francois and Claudette, a brother and sister pair who ran a jazz club deep in the French Quarter. The siblings had money troubles though, and ended up dying when the man who was going to buy the building decided to show them he meant business and set it on fire. Jade, who had also befriended a Cajun traiteur named Tante Mattie and her friend Jean-Luc LeBeau on a rainy night, was devastated by the deaths of her friends and decided to enlist the help of the Thieves Guild in retalitating against the arsonist businessman. Jean-Luc and the thieves helped Jade convince the man he should leave town and never return. Then, once back at Tante Mattie's house, Jean-Luc and Mattie told Jade that they suspected she was the biological sister of Jean-Luc's son Remy. Jean-Luc offered her a home with him and the thieves and Jade accepted it after realizing she wasn't going to get another chance to have a home. It was then that she was given her real name, Jacqueline LeBeau, after Jean-Luc's mother, whose middle name was Jacqueline. Jade promptly shortened it to Jackie and her life with the Thieves Guild began.

It took awhile for the other members of the Guild to accept Jackie as part of their family, partially because she was a stranger and a mutant, and partially because her older brother had been excommunicated years before and they weren't entirely sure she could be trusted. While visiting Rene at the diner with two members of the Guild, Emil Lapin and Zoe Ishihara, Jackie confronted several members of the Assassins Guild (long-time enemies of the thieves) and stopped them from killing a young mutant girl with pink skin and rainbow colored hair who later introduced herself as Rainbow. Rainbow eventually moved in with Rene, who decided he wanted to help her out the way he'd tried to help Jackie. The two of them are friends of the Thieves Guild to this day.

Jackie took part in the Guild's rite of passage, otherwise known as the tilling, in which she proved her worth as a thief. She became a full member of the Guild and was finally accepted into the family. Gambit came home for a visit and met his little sister for the first time; they bonded instantly and have been close ever since. Jackie did her best to get to know the various Guild members for the men and women they are, and even harbored a secret crush on red-haired computer specialist Emil for months before anyone found out about it. When the information finally came to light, Emil revealed that he had a crush on her too, and they eventually started dating. When Jackie was nearly twenty-three, she decided to get out of New Orleans again for awhile, in an attempt to truly find herself and see for sure if she was in love with Emil.

Jackie, who started going by Jade again, met up with a young man who called himself Firebird, and they started an adventure that would result in some surprising turns of events. They met up with other young mutants, Trah and Xcalibur, before finally joining up with a telepath named Candra, who later became Dark Phoenix II. The five companions became a family of their own, and formed bonds that could never be broken. They were in Seattle when they were kidnapped by the FOH, who performed horrible experiments on them. Some members of the X-Men showed up to help save them after Candra nearly killed herself using her powers to try and escape. The Phoenix Force joined up with Candra, giving her stronger powers and allowing her to live. They escaped and accepted the invitation to return to the Xavier Institue for Higher Learning in New York with the X-Men. Before long, the five were an X-team of their own, suitably called the Dark X-Men, or DXM. They went to classes at the school, including Jackie, who was older than most normal high school students, but had never been to a real school. Jackie and Firebird, who later revealed that his name was Antoine, graduated from the school at the same time, leaving Candra, Trah and Xcalibur (Anna and Rob) behind at the school while they went back to their homes. It was after that happened that the DXM was disbanded, but the friendships formed cannot be destroyed.

Jackie had realized in her year away from New Orleans that she belonged with the Thieves and especially with Emil, whom she loves more than anyone. She went back to New Orleans and her old life, slipping back in among the now Unified Guild of Thieves and Assassins with little difficulty, especially seeing as her brother Remy was now in charge of the Guild. She had missed the departure of their father, Jean-Luc, but later mourned his death with the rest of the remaining thieves. Emil later asked Jackie to marry him, and their wedding is set for August 17, 2002. Yes, many members of the X-Men, and all the former DXM members will be in attendence.
