Here are the guidelines on how to post for the superhero PBEM campaign.
1. I expect everyone to post at least once a week, preferably more. I'd like to get into the routine of sending out my posts no later than Sunday night and you guys responding no later than Friday night. If everyone responds sooner then we can step it up a notch. If you can't post for awhile (real life responsibilities and whatnot) then please let me know. If you are chronically late then I will hunt you down and kill you. I know where you all live. (See Three Strikes Rule)
2. From here on out I will organize the posts by Turn #'s. Don't change the header in any way when responding. That way we can track the posts by threads on the e-group page. In general a header will probably look something like this: Turn 1.0 (<- Turn # to be changed by me)
3. If you don't want the others in the group to see your post, e-mail me directly. If you wish to speak to another player in private about the game, just e-mail each other directly not to the e-group. Just be sure to send me a copy of the message so that I know what is going on.
4. I am going to give you guys the freedom of writing out any interactions you have with your own personally significant NPC's. You control what they say and do and are in charge of writing out any conversations you have with them. Just don't abuse this. This will take a lot of the load off of me and give you greater control over your character's personal storyline.
5. We won't be using the OOC (Out of Character) and IC (In Character) stuff. Instead if you need to make an out of character comment or ask a question just use brackets [...] around the OOC stuff. It can be contaied within the paragraph you are writing and will probably be less confusing.
6. COMBAT. The dreaded PBeM combat will be handled by posting several ideas of what you plan to do. (i.e. I'll do this, unless he does that, in which case I'll do this again, etc. etc. etc.)
Try to keep your action posts limited to "I try to do this" or "He attempts to do that." You won't know if you succeed or not until I tell you.
It will probably help speed things up in combat if we go with a three round post.
It will be confusing at first since we are all new to this, but I'm sure we will get the hang of it.
7. THREE STRIKES RULE: Basically if you fail to post on time three times in a row, then your character becomes an NPC.
1st failed post time: I remind you to post on time and go ahead and post for you.
2nd (consequtive) Time: The character loses his action for that round (he becomes preoccupied with picking the lint out of his bellybutton) and suffers any effects, good or ill, that may occur as a result of this.
3rd (consequtive) Time: The PC becomes an NPC until such time as the player can post on a regular basis. If I receive prior notice that you won't be able to post due to real life respnsibilities, then it won't count against you.
9. When responding to posts please place your response at the bottom of the message to avoid confusion. Snipping unrelated text is also encouraged.
10. CREATIVE LICENSE: I encourage players to advance the story as much as possible without leaving the other players behind or totally altering the storyline (GM always maintains Veto power) The more input from players and GM alike, the better the quality of the game for everyone involved.
11. That is all for now. Keep in mind that some or all of these rules may change as we get a handle on this and figure out what works and what doesn't.
