Blitz

Ms. Chesterton asked: "So having said all of that, why don't you tell me all about yourself. Your background. What motivates you to be a hero? What special talents and abilities do you possess? Why would you be a valuable asset to our organization.?"

Blitz gets up from his chair and takes a few steps around the office while he collects his thoughts. He takes in the scene - the office, the dazzling, commanding presence of Ms. Chesterton - he glances at her left hand but it's folded under her right arm, out of sight. 'Oh well, he thinks to himself, my life is a little too hectic as it is. Best not to bother with such thoughts.' After assessing the lady and her offer, he decides to be frank with her and put all of his cards on the table.

"Well, let's see, where to begin? My name is Eric Machen and by vocation I am a paramedic. I've spent my life helping people. It's just my calling in life, I guess.

Well, I was on a call about a year ago, to a research facility. Apparently, there was an accident in a radiation research lab, an explosion of some sort. One of the lab techs was unconscious. On the way there, we ran into a traffic jam, but I'm a pretty good driver, so I was able to get us through some tough spots without loosing too much time.

By the time my partner and I arrived, the patient had stopped breathing. We quickly went to work, stabilized the guy and were preparing to take him out to the ambulance. When we stood up with the stretcher, we bumped into a control panel. Since much of the equipment was damaged, a power surge was sent through the radiation emitting diodes. Naturally, I happened to be standing right between them as a burst of this ionic radiation arcs across the gap. I lit up like a Christmas tree.

Next thing I know, I'm waking up downtown in a hospital room. I was apparently unharmed by the blast, but they kept me overnight for observation. Over the next few days, I started feeling funny. Long story short - that's how I got my powers.

As for my abilities, I can shrink down to a height of about 2 feet. This condenses my mass, rather than displacing it, so that I still weigh my normal 160 pounds, can still lift the same weight, and hit with the same amount of force. On that note, I'm a good hand-to-hand combatant; I've trained with some of the military guys that run the 'squads' with me."

To illustrate, Blitz activates the ionic energy within him. Where a 5'10" man was, there is now a man standing just over 2 feet tall. His body is still proportioned as a normal adult, only on a smaller scale. As Eric continues his explanation, she notices that his voice sounds nearly unchanged. She sort of expected the high-pitched voice of a child.

"Since my strength is unaffected by the size change, most people underestimate my physical abilities. That gives me a mental edge in combat. But don't worry, there's more. When I am at this reduced size, my body is somehow energized - I don't know if it has to do with my condensed mass or the ionic energy or both.

"Anyway, I'm able to move at superhuman speeds - I can even break the sound barrier, but I rarely go that fast. It's a little painful. Due to my speed I can leap to astounding heights, 30 feet up easily. I've come up with an attack form, basically slamming into people at hyper speed, that lets me keep up with the heavy hitters.

"I'm also pretty resistant to damage at this size. My body's condensed mass essentially acts as pretty tough body armor. I've been shot with small-caliber handguns, and barely even bruised.

"The only drawback is that my body can't handle this denseness for long. I can only remain this size for about an hour and my hyperspeed is only activated when I'm this size."

Blitz returns to his full height and returns to his seat.

"So there you have it. I'm good in a fight, I move at hyperspeed - I can't tell you how often this comes in handy when I realize I left something at the station, like say the defibrillator! I'm an excellent driver and you can't tell me that having a trained paramedic on the field team wouldn't be handy. So what do you say?"

Blitz

(Eric Machen)

Strength:   6  (Boxing/HTH combat)
Agility:   8   (Driving)
Intellect:  4  (Medicine/Paramedic, Assessment)
Willpower:   5

Edge:  2
Hand:  4

CALLING:  Protector - Eric has always been driven by a need
to protect those in need. He is one of the city's chief
paramedics and has been in the field for 5 years.

HINDRANCES: None.

PERSONALITY: The quintessential do-gooder. He will not kill
or seriously injure an opponent, if possible. If he does,
he will treat their injuries once it is safe to do so. He
is responsible and quick to act. His occupation has taught
him to appreciate life and live it to the fullest. That
includes having a good time.

POWERS
Size Alteration 8 - The radiation blast that gave him his
powers imbued his body with a large burst of ionic energy.
By drawing upon that energy, Blitz is able to reduce his
size, yet retain his full mass and weight.
Limits - Shrinking only, one size only (2 ft. tall),
duration of 1 hour max.
Stunts - Density Control. His Strength and Agility are
unaffected when he shrinks. His mass is compacted into the
smaller size.

Body Armor +4   Due to his body's dense mass.
   Limit - Only when shrunk.

Lightning Speed 13 - When reduced in size, his body is able
to utilize it's store of ionic energy as hyperspeed.
   Limit - Only when shrunk
   Stunts -
Leaping (up to about 30 ft vertically). He can use
this stunt to Power Slam flying targets, although it is
obviously dangerous.
Power Slam (attacks using Speed intensity instead of
Strength)

SKILLS
Boxing - He has been trained in several forms of military
hand-to-hand combat. Making a HTH attack is one level
easier for him than normal (ie - Automatic instead of
Easy).

Driving - His years behind the wheel of an ambulance have
made him an accomplished driver. After all, it's all in the
reflexes.

Medicine - He is an experienced paramedic and can handle
most forms of trauma and injury. He is not an MD and cannot
perform delicate surgeries. He can stabilize most wounds so
that further Health is not lost until more advanced medical
care is received.

Assessment - His training and experience have also made him
very good at quickly sizing up a scene and picking out the
important information, such as where the danger is,
identifying injuries, and what just doesn't fit in the
picture.

EQUIPMENT
Medical Kit - This is a small medkit containing the tools
of the trade to assist him in the line of duty.

If he or anyone else has a sudden need for other equipment,
he is certainly able to help out there, depending on the
circumstances.
