NIGHTWEAVER

Jeremiah Kane was a graduate biochemistry student at NYU. For an internship, he headed out West to study the effects (if any) on the native wildlife and insects found living in regions near the old nuclear testing grounds of the 1940's and 50's.

During his investigations, he discovered a small colony of mutated spiders. They had 13 legs and an abnormal thorax, five extra sets of eyes and what appeared to be a single small "tooth" between their mandibles. Jeremiah captured a few of these strange-looking creatures and placed them in jars ( they were very aggressive and jumping at him). On the way back to the camp site he had an accident and flipped his vehicle. When he briefly awoke he saw the spiders crawling all over him and biting him. He soon slipped back into unconsciousness.

When he awoke again he was at the Good Grace of God Methodist Hospital just outside of Tempe, AZ. He felt better than he ever had in his life...stronger, more aware. As if he were alive for the first time in his life.

After his release from the hospital, Jeremiah determined that he now possessed superhuman powers. He could climb walls, lift up to 10 tons, was amazingly agile, and possessed a sixth sense that warned him of danger. Perhaps the strangest power was his ability to project a sticky, web-like fluid from his wrists. The webs were hard to control, but Jeremiah later developed a pair of mechanical "spinnerettes" that allowed him greater accuracy, range, and control with his webbing.

He surmised that the mutated spider venom had somehow triggered spider-like metahuman abilities in his body. He told no one about these strange powers and spent the rest of his internship searching for the spiders, but he could never locate them again.

His internship over, Jeremiah went back to New York. Once there decided to use his powers to fight crime as a superhero. He had always admired superheroes and had secretly longed to become one since his childhood. He devised a black costume with web-patterns on it and dubbed himself Nightweaver.

He soon became affiliated with two other crimefighters (Apollo and Street Justice) and they dubbed themselves the Night Shift. Nightweaver had never had so much fun. Unfortunately his fun soon came to an end as his powers spun out of control. They would suddenly cease to work at the worst times, but later reactivate. Jeremiah decided to go into retirement as Nightweaver, at least until he could figure out a way to stabilize his powers.

Years later, Jeremiah has finally managed to stabilize his powers and is ready to return to action as Nightweaver. He has since graduated from NYU and currently works as a biochemist for Ultratech Industries.
