Autumn Fourball |

We had a marvelous weekend with 'wonderful' weather - two days of glorious sunshine. The Autumn Fourball was a complete success. For those of you with a competitive spirit, check out the winners on the winners update page. Even with the morning frost on the fairways, everybody was raring to go on Saturday morning with a shotgun start at 8am. The initial 18 holes were twosomes, best ball with handicaps, to establish the ranking, for the subsequent match play games in 3 ranking groups. The best morning results were two teams with minus 9. Quite an accomplishment! On the other hand, a lot of our 'dear members' still do not know how to fill in a scorecard or use their 'proper' handicap, causing our golf committee to re-calculate many a scorecard. The Saturday afternoon match play was subdivided into 3 groups. Champion - Gold & Silver, which on Sunday continued up to a final game within each group. After 72 holes in 2 days, the winners and runners up (with very tired limbs) received their well-earned prizes. Our thanks go out to the golf committee (especially David Wilson - he knows why), the MCC management and the green keeping staff for event and the course condition. Finally, we thank De Beers for their kind sponsoring. With the Autumn Fourball behind us, it seems that the season is slowly coming to an end. However, we are certain that a number of good golf days remain. So, come out to the country club and get in a few more rounds before the snow will keep us inside! Dubai - Already the first announcement was made of a group of members going to Dubai during the holiday weekend of November 7th. A 4-day event with golf at both The Emirates and Creek clubs. If you feel like coming check the notice board opposite the pro-shop for details. |

If you the swing is rusty, don't forget we are lucky enough to have a number of very good golfing instructors - better to try and fix the swing now rather than waiting until the end of the season. PNB: Nigel is away from 17 - 26 May 99. |
