the Call to Order by Davis, Joseph H. Brown, Sr., former State
Society President, offered the invocation. Hardwick Smith Johnson,
Jr., brought greetings and welcome to those in attendance, followed

and the Charter presented. An American Flag was presented to the

The Chapter held it's first anniversary dinner on November 14,
1987 with Col. Robert B. Vance, Sr., State President of the Georgia
Society serving as guest speaker. The Dinner Meeting was a formal
event, held in the Magnolia and Dogwood Rooms at the Newnan Holiday
Inn, and was well attended by members and guests. Due to the
Chapter's geographical location, and its connection to the Creek
Indians, the members of the chapter voted to change the Chapter's
name to honor William Mcintosh, the Creek Chief who ceded most of
the lands that comprise the State of Georgia to the United States
and was subsequently murdered by his own people for this act. In
1990 the Chattahoochee River Chapter became the Mcintosh Chapter.
The Chapter has held monthly meetings since the beginning. Two
special meetings have been held annually to celebrate the birth of
General George Washington and to celebrate the anniversary of the
founding of the Mcintosh Chapter. One anniversary dinner held on
Tuesday, November 16, 1993 featured a special program by Dr. Ben
Griffith, retired Professor of History at West Georgia College on
the topic of his book about the life of Chief William Mcintosh.
The Mcintosh Chapter has been active in State and National projects
since its formation. Three of its members have served as State
Society Officers. Hardwick Smith Johnson, Jr. as State President,
Michael Anthony Marchese as State Registrar and Earl S. McGilvray,
Jr. as State Secretary. Hardwick Smith Johnson, Jr. has also served
as National Trustee and Vice President General of the South Atlantic
District, and holds the coveted Minuteman Medal. The Mcintosh
Chapter has awarded Jr. ROTC medals to a cadet at Newnan High
School on an annual basis. One Law Enforcement Commendation Medal
has been awarded and the Chapter has annually marked the anniversary
of the birth of the Marquis de Lafayette, hero of the American
Revolution with a wreath laying ceremony near the Lafayette statue
on the square in LaGrange. The Chapter was also represented at a
special ceremony marking the grave of Revolutionary soldier John
Neely at Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church near Sharpesburg in
Oct., 1986.
The Chapter continues to support the projects of the GAS SAR and
NSSAR, and strives to make the ideals of heritage and patriotism
prominent in this part of Georgia. Under the most capable leadership
of Chapter President Col. Ewell Brown Pinkston, a nephew of former
State President H. Bennett Brown, the Chapter is certain to meet
with success.
