Host: You know some people have been waiting 2 days to see you, sleeping outside in the cold...
Brian: Really?
Howie: Comment ca va? [crowd cheers] I just wanna say thank you all, so merci beaucoup, for making 1996 a wonderful year for all of us. Since we came here the first time, to where we are today, it's incredible. And we just wanna thank the fans of Montreal and Canada for making the Backstreet Boys number 1 in Canada! Thank you.
Kevin: Hello. Bonjour everybody. It's good to be back here to MusiquePlus. The last time we were here we had a small studio audience and now I can't believe it, it's incredible. We wanna thank you guys for all your support for our music. And, it's good to be back.
AJ: Hello. I just wanna say thank you to everyone for allowing us to fulfill all of our dreams. Thank you MusiquePlus. Peace, I love you, God bless. Thank you.
Nick: Hello. Um... I don't know if there's very much to say, but I can say one thing and it'll pretty much cover everything...
Host: Oh no, not that word again!
Nick: But it's two words, it's two words. And I really do mean it from the bottom of my heart, Je t'aime.
[crowd screams]
Host: What do you miss most on tour?
Howie: Our families. [crowd goes aww...] Our families back home. Our families have been brought with us this time to Montreal. This is the only time we brought all our families together, here in Canada.
Host: Have you ever thought that maybe the reason you're so popular is because you're all exceptionally good looking?
AJ: Thank you.
Kevin: Thank you. Thank you for the compliment. Um... well I mean, that's very... The main reason we want people to like us and our music is because of our music. That comes first and that's what we're all about. And if people like us for our looks, well that's nice too, but.
Host: Good looks will help you, you know.
Kevin: It doesn't hurt, it doesn't hurt. And that's a nice compliment.
Host: You know Jim Carrey's new movie's coming out today?
Brian: [in his best Jim Carrey voice and face] Alrighty then!
[they sing the a cappella of Anywhere For You]
Host: Who chooses the songs you sing in concerts that are not BSB songs, like How Deep Is Your Love, Heaven, and Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me? And why those songs?
Brian: We actually choose those songs. Um... How Deep Is Your Love was one of my favourite songs, um, not just because of the Bee Gees but because Luther Vandross remade the song. So I do the Luther Vandross version. Um... as well as, as well as the Elton John song Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. It's just, they're all songs that have influenced us in our career. In doing what we do best, which is singing. So that's why we chose those songs.
Host: When do you work on the album?
Kevin: At night
AJ: We're going home in two weeks to finish it.
Brian: In April
Host: What's it gonna sound like?
Kevin: We're not gonna stray to far from the original. I mean, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, you know, so we have our own sound and we're gonna stick to the music that we love to make, which is the pop, R&B flavour. [AJ sees fans looking at him so he makes a heart with his hands and the fans scream]
[the Boys sing an a cappella of Who Do You Love]
Host: We had a contest where the fans had to make banners and send them in... Are you impressed that 12,000 people made banners for you?
Howie: Definately, definately. I mean, we have a lot of dedicated fans out there. All across the world. And that means a lot to us because that makes the Backstreet Boys who we are. Merci to all the fans. Let me just say Je t'aime to all the fans.
Kevin: It's amazing to think people are drawing pictures of us, it's incredible. It's beautiful. Thanks. Merci beaucoup.
Host: Do you take the time to read all the letters and write to all your fans?
Kevin: Obviously, we can't read every letter. Um... we've set up fan clubs to uh... to help us. Usually we pick out fans in different countries to help set up and organize the fan club. And they help us answer all the mail we get. We get tons of it and that, you know, there's absolutely no way humanly possible to answer every letter. You know, so in each country we ask fans who set up the fan clubs. And uh... we accomplish answering the letter and fan mail.
Host: Do you ever get tired of singing "We've Got It Goin' On"?
Nick: Yes, we do. We've done the song I don't know how many times over in Europe ever since we first did it. When you do a song over and over again it can get tiring. Of course, [AJ waves and smiles again] it's a song that everyone of the guys loves, so we don't mind performing it.
Host: But you do change it.
Nick: Yeah, we do change it. Like you can change different things you know, so it won't get tiresome to perform.
Howie: It's cool. We got to go to different places, see new faces... It gives us the energy to do it over and over again. It makes it fresh everytime.
Host: When are you coming back to Montreal?
Kevin: This summer.
Host: What makes you guys keep going in life?
Howie: [winks] The fans, you guys. Everybody out there. Merci beaucoup.
Host: If you had three wishes, what would they be? To each of you.
Nick: I'm going last
AJ: Go ahead, B-Rok, you give me time to think!
Brian: If I had three wishes I would wish for lifelong health for me and my family. Um... I would also wish for success in life and... oh, that's two. I would also wish for a beautiful wife and family.
Howie: I guess for me um... my first one would be, since we've travelled all around the world just about and we've seen many countries and many new faces and new places, [AJ whispers to Nick and they laugh] just to have world peace. You know and seeing everyone live life to the fullest, no hunger, no poverty. That would be definately my first wish, second I guess just being able to have my family with me everywhere in life. I guess my third wish [would be] just to be successful with the Backstreet Boys and us to continue the rest of our lives together.
AJ: Aww, D...
Kevin: Let's see, um... I'd like to uh... I'd wish for a long, long, happy career in the music business because I love music and without music I don't know what I'd do. Let's see, uh... I'd like to have a nice family so I'd wish for a nice wife and family someday. Mmm... uh... wow, um... Just uh... health. Good health. I don't wanna get too deep, so.
AJ: Uh... I wish, I wish I could own McDonald's [laughs] Oh, do I! No, um... I wish for the knowledge to press on and be as successful as I can with these four guys, till death do us part. Uh... I wish for a long, long life of health with my family, to support my family and make sure that they can have their dreams fulfilled as well as mine. And uh... to keep on doin' what I do best and never quit so, that'd be it for me.
Nick: Okay. [AJ says something to him and he laughs] Three wishes. I wish, first of all, I wish we could have a great success with this group, just like every other guy said. I wish I have a long lasting life. And last but not least, I'd like to say we've been all around the world and we've seen, you know, things from bad to good and I just... I wish for world peace.
Host: When you guys were young, who were your role models as far as entertainment and how do you feel now, knowing that the situations reversed and children are looking up to you as role models?
Kevin: We can just say a little bit...
Nick: I'll go first. [laughs] My personal role models growing up have always been my parents. I think that when you think of role models, you... I think that everybody out there should say their parents are their role models. Musically wise, I have always like a singer from a group called Journey named Steve Perry. He's always been one of my favourites. And um... how do I feel? I feel it's really different 'cause I'm only 17 years old you know, to have people look up to me as a role model, that's really different. And I feel, I just feel like I'm a normal person like you, you know and I'd like to be treated that way.
[A girl asks the next question in French and Brian jokingly starts to answer, "Well, um..." and then laughs]
Host: For Brian, if you weren't a singer, what would you be?
Brian: I would be just finishing college and I would probably be a teacher. [After the Host finishes translating, Brian jokingly says with an accent "Professeur" and everyone laughs]
Host: At what age did you guys start singing?
Howie: My parents said when I was around three-years-old um... actually, I was supposedly spotted on my grandmother's bed singing "Babyface" with a little guitar. But, um... I actually didn't really start until around the age of seven because I had an older sister that got me involved. Back there, [points behind him] my parents back there can probably tell you a little bit more. They're the ones who actually got me started.
Brian: Can the camera follow me this way? [goes to the back corner of the studio]
This is our families, wanna introduce our families.AJ: It's a family moment on stage, is that okay?
Brian: Do we have time to bring them up here?
Howie: These are the Backstreet Boys' families.
Brian: The Backstreet family.
Host: Let's bring them on out.
AJ: Mrs. Richardson... There's my mom.
Host: You have a problem, you brought all your families out and now you have to sing.
Brian: Oh well.
AJ: My mom's working so I'm all by myself. [pretends like he's gonna cry]
Host: I'll be your mother.
AJ: Okay [laughs]
Host: You guys are going to sing with the families like this?
Nick, AJ, Brian, Howie, Kevin: Yeah, sure.
Host: Quit Playing Games?
[the Boys sing an a cappella from Quit Playing Games (With My Heart) and AJ's mom joins him when he starts to sing. "Baby, baby, our love is so strong" and they hug]
Host: Is it very different with your family on this tour and what do you do differently than on previous tours?
Brian: We're a lot more when they're here! [laughs] No...
AJ: We're on our really beast behaviour when they're here!
Host: Do you go to bed earlier?
Nick, AJ, Brian, Howie, Kevin: Yes we do go to bed earlier.
Host: Not allowed to go out?
Kevin: Right, yeah. [laughs] No, I'm just kidding.
AJ: We get grounded
Host: You're grounded?
AJ: [while mom gives him a hug] I'm grounded.
Host: Why?
AJ: [jokingly] I don't know, I don't know, she always makes things up. [his mom laughs]
Host: Guys, what's coming up for you next? You have this Canadian tour and then what?
>Howie: We're going home for a week to have a vacation with out families and then we go back to start recording for the second album.
Host: When will the next album be out?
Howie: The next album will probably be out in the summertime, around August. So we'll start a warm-up tour...
Brian: And come back to Montreal! Host: Come back to Montreal?
Howie and Brian: Yup, sure.
Host: The show is almost over and I want you guys to sing something for us.
Kevin: A cappella?
Host: Yeah
Kevin: How about "Just To Be Close"?
