Not a bad CC this week but not great either.
Ron presents a Red Deer jacket to Don....some reminincing here by both that was kind of difficult to follow.
Don gets in the Coaching mode and explains that defencemen have to pinch but the forwards have to back them up (clip of Markov pinching and getting burned on the play).
They roll the clip of Orr scoring in O.T. vs. the Blues to win the Bruins the Cup - seen this clip a few million times. Good point though, the second angle clearly showed Eddie Westfall go back to the point to cover for Orr.
Don gets back on stick deflections on shots - he's been on this for the last couple of months now, if guys don't understand this by now they likely can't help it. A clip of Perrault scoring on Rhodes (via defender getting his stick in the way) and Prospal scoring on Cujo.
They talk briefly about how Demers called a stick measurement on Burns and the fact that Burns is upset. Why? It's in the rules? I wish guys called that more - Demers did win a Cup with that very move. Don seems to think coachs shouldn't do that.
Then they get into how Mike O'Connel stated that the reason Samsanov wasn't scoring as much is because his ice time is down. Apparently Burns to great offence to this as well (not a good week for Burns). Cherry backs up Burns stating that O'Connel is an Assistant GM or "Dime a Dozen" GM and that O'Connel is a "twit" - pretty good segment. Love it when Don cuts up the Bruins at some level.
Remember that time Kasper benched Stevens and Neely at MLG and Cherry went totally nuts on CC - it was kind of a toned down version of that.
Ron talks about how he saw an ad in Chateleine magazine that said something like the extremes in Canada are the weather, taxes and Don Cherry (it was an ad for cereal). Don quickly gets on Ron's case about how he was reading Chateleine and states that if they made a cereal after Ron it would be fruit loops. Good for a laugh and Ron says that Cherry must have been "tipped off" - obviously because Don isn't that good at coming up with funny stuff.
This was the usual boring CC except for the Burns stuff where Cherry gets a little mad and rips Demers (slightly) and O'Connel. We still need more passion and anger in CC. 5 out of 10.
Next week will be the last one of the regular season - should be good with the entire Gretzky retirement issue and the playoffs around the corner.
