Be YOU...
YOU are individual.
There is noone else
like YOU.
Lead...
Do Not Follow...
You have a Path
That is only YOUR'S.
Live, laugh, love...
Take chances.
Every moment
Is YOUR'S.
Trust in YOU,
Be kind to YOU.
Just be YOU,
For, YOU are special!

I take being called a
"HIPPIE" as an honor!
But, don't allow
yourself to become
disillusioned by the
"laid-back" attitudes,
and, the sometimes
projected, "Screw It!"
attitudes that you
might witness from
some in the hippie
tribes. You cannot
stand-up for what you
believe in, and take
on the role of the
Planet Caretaker with
that attitude. Just as
in any other society
or community, you must
understand that being
ALIVE and ACTIVE gets
the job done! Have fun-
enjoy the community
SpiRit with your
friends; just be sure
that you don't get
caught up in the
sometimes "laid-back"
way of living and
thinking, to the point
where you are not
helping anyone -
including yourself!
I want to see the
new generation of Youth
in this country carry
on the "Torch" of Caring,
Love, and Respect for
ALL BEINGS! It is
imperative for the sake
of this World !
Now, if I sound like
someone's Mother...well;
I don't have kids of my
own, so, feel free to
adopt me....(smile!)
~BEING "HIPPIE" is a
wonderful thing, and,
no matter how much
possible ridicule you
may get from the other
fellow beings who don't
see things your way -
SO BE IT!
Know that you are doing
what you can for this
Earth who has taken care
of you, your ancestors,
and your offspring's
offspring, in the future.
Try to think in this way:
Before you make any action,
how is this going to affect
generations down the line?
Mother Earth has given
SO much to us; Let's
give it back!
Live in Peace with your
fellow Beings, and, you
will learn from them
and prosper in
knowledge and communal
spirit.
CARRY THE TORCH
ONWARD!

BE KIND TO
ONE
ANOTHER!

"WHAT
DOES
A
HIPPIE
DO?"
WOW...this is the most FREQUENTLY
asked question that I recieve in e-mails...
mostly from the wonderfully energetic and
curious youth that I talk with. It IS
quite the touchy subject (!), and, I
realize that I risk misleading
or introducing confusing ideas to those
who are searching for the answer.
SO - I am going to try and explain
the concept of hippiedom from experience
and personal observation. YES...most of
this information is MY personal views,
and, I realize that I will be held fully
responsible for them! (~grin!~) BUT...
as the old saying goes:
"Even a turtle has to stick out his
neck, sometimes"!
SO,(deep breath!)...HERE GOES!
One of the whole concepts of the
"Hippie Movement" was the idea of
being a "non-conformist". Here is the
WORDNET 1.6 term for "non-conformist";
"not conforming to some norm
or socially approved pattern of behavior
or thought." So, the hippie does
not conform to social "norm"...herein
lies the ongoing disagreements with the
present political/human rights issues
that you see so much of on the hippie
websites,journalists articles,
t.v., etc.
BUT...
HERE is where you have to be
very careful NOT to conform to
the popular dresscode, music,
and overall peer-type pressures that
do exist in the actual hippie circles!
I have had many of you to send me e-mails,
telling me; "I thought all hippies wore
tie-dyes"; "I thought all hippies listen
to the Grateful Dead"; "Don't all hippies
do drugs?" The answers to ALL OF THE ABOVE
is, "NO!" Hippie is a state of mind and
being...
you can help your fellow humans,
care for the planet, care for our animal
friends, and work toward the cause of
World Peace, practice tolerance of all
Beings, and encourage diversity, even if
you have never owned a tie-dye
garment, and had rather listen to Mozart or
Big Band, and have never indulged in drugs.
This has been
my feelings for many years,
and,I hold fast to them.
THE POINT IS...
BE YOUR OWN INDIVIDUAL!
RESPECT Mother Earth and ALL who share
this beautiful planet with you. Think of the
generations down the line, every time you do
something that could cause harm to the Earth
or it's occupants.
"FOR EVERY ACTION, THERE IS AN EQUAL
AND OPPOSITE REACTION."
As far as everyday life? Well...it usually
consists of the things that the rest of the
world does - get up; get the kids off to
school; go to work; come home and do more
chores...
Not real glamorous, eh?
Most folks see the wandering, tie-dyed
clans of hippies that spend their time
driving around the country in painted-up
VW buses, taking odd-jobs, or selling
their homemade wares to survive. Well,
that lifestyle still exists.
Seeing the world is great to expand your
horizons, but I wouldn't suggest a
career in being a wandering
hippie! WORK and settling down is
necessary to get yourself grounded and
centered. Enjoy your youth -
but, remember; even hippies have
responsibilities. The concept of it all,
again, is how you percieve life
and your daily routine.
If you love yourself, you can love
your neighbors. You must change your
way of thinking to be concious of how you
treat the Earth, every day. You must be
tolerant of ALL religions/beliefs,
and, avoid the urge to put-down the folks
who are "different" than yourself; for,
you demand the same from them, eh?
If anyone has any further questions, or,
if I have only succeeded in confusing
some of you even further (!),
please feel free to
I also have a wonderful friend who has said
that he will be glad to answer any questions
that you might have that I may not have answered.
He is a wonderfully helpful, patient and
knowledgable person! Just drop an e-mail to
JIM GREENLEE
.
Let us ALL spread ~PEACE~ and move closer
to the beautiful world that we can have if we
just put out the effort to obtain it.
NOTHING is impossible, my friends!
~PEACE! PASS IT ON!~
