The Horizontal axis wind generator OA100 of a
3 fixed type blade rotor is a prototype unit of the new generation WTG's
with programmed variable speed control. We installed it at the Skyros island,
Greece, at November 1991.
Since then and after a first period of preliminary
tests, it works under normal operation, supplying energy to the electric
grid of the island. At the same time, we continue our tests for a deeper
investigation on its behaviour and performance and therefore to optimize
even more our new control system.
The unit, which belongs to Public Power Corporation
(PPC) of Greece, was designed in the Aerodynamic Laboratory of the National
Technical University (NTUA) of Athens - Greece, in co-operation referred
to a 80kW WTG of a constant speed 3/fixed type blade rotor, based on a
preliminary design (1983-84) of Prof.N.Athanassiadis and his colleague
Prof.G.Bergeles in the Aerodynamic Lab of NTUA.
However during the years 1985-88 of the carrying-out
the constructional and the operating design of the unit by Prof.N.Athanasiadis
and his primary co-operator K. Michailidis, Dr.Electrical-Electronic Engineer,
raised up our idea to introduce a new method for the operation and control
of WTG's, that of "Programmed variable speed control " .
So was born the unit OA 100 (100 kW) which is
presented here.
