A Short Sermon on an Obvious Theme

"There is eternal enmity betwixt the kitties and the birds." -- from a silly poem by Rhett Maddox.
A scattering of bird claws and of bones,
Of fuzzy down and feathers --
      Memento mori of a mockingbird's
      Miscalculation,
      Who late in aerobatic glee
      Did wildly shriek
      And beak mid-air
      A juicy wasp,
      But now -- cat-struck --
      Is strewn across my lawn.

      Amidst the fluff and gristle
      lies his head.

      Ants make a highway
      Through his last scream.
