Zeno of Elea
METAPHYSICS: "Dichotomy of Bisection"
- •Logically argues to the ad infinitum as regards extended reality
- •Existing things: are quantitative and subject to mathematical
extension
- •Things are divisible without limit, therefore one can never arrive at
a unit which is indivisible. Thus there is no MANY because many
is a number of units, if there is no UNIT. No plurality.
- •No motion - In the place where a thing is - it is at rest. And where it
is not, it cannot BE moving.
Fragment 4: "That which is moving neither in
the place in which it is nor a place in which it is
not."
EPISTEMOLOGY: "Reasoning"
- •Follows Parmenides in adhereing to reason over perception
- •Argues from adversaries (unlike Parmenides) to contradictory
conclusions, thus proving the opposite premiss.
