REAL NAME: Mattie Baptiste
GOES BY: Tante Mattie
FIRST APPEARANCE: Rogue Limited Series
GROUP AFFILIATION: Unified Guilds
KNOWN ALLIES: Rogue, Gambit
Tante Mattie is the "traiteur" (see dictionary), the spiritual healer and mystic guide to both the Thieves and Assassins of New Orleans.
She is the mother-figure to every member of the Unified Guilds, being a lot older than all of them. She has always been considered to be part of both Guilds, which often put her in the middle of their conflicts. I've figure though, that she's always had more of a special place in her heart for the Thieves, although sometimes I think she wishes they'd just stop being thieves and get real jobs like normal people. The Assassins have been known to treat her worse than the Thieves do, and show less regard for her opinion. She was born in the 1880s and as far as I know is still alive today, although in the current Gambit series, Remy goes to Madame Camille for help, not his Tante Mattie. So I am uncertain about Mattie's whereabouts or status.
