About 200 people held up banners and shouted accolades Sunday as the 22-year-old skier leaped from a limousine that escorted him to his family's house, which neighbors decorated with American flags. Tiburon Mayor Harry Matthews presented him with a key to the San Francisco Bay area city as a band played the Olympic anthem. "It's so great to be surrounded by all the people that really mean a lot to me, "he told the gathering. "I'm glad I could bring home the gold for America, but especially for you guys. Thanks for believing in me and supporting me. Let's party!" Moseley used his trademark helicopter jump to capture the gold in the men's moguls last week. The win gave the United States its first medal of the Nagano Games. He quickly got accustomed to his newfound fame, signing autographs for children and hiring an agent to handle a round of expected endorsements. City officials hope to honor Moseley with a parade, perhaps as early as next Sunday. "We all watched him grow up, and we saw him practice. Now we're here to support our hometown boy," said neighbor Susan Hoehler. ********************************************************************** 2/26/98~ Jonny Moseley and his mother, Barbara Moseley, met President Clinton Wednesday (2/25/98). On Saturday, Jonny will host a bash at Planet Hollywood in the South of Market district of San Francisco, and then a parade through his hometown of Tiburon on Sunday. Jonny says: "It's a little hard on your cheekbones -- you have to keep smiling so much. But I don't mind it. I have never said once, 'I'm getting tired of this.' I'm enjoying every moment of this." Jonny donated a pair of Olympic skis and poles for display at P.H., along with his US Ski Team jacket. In turn, Planet Hollywood will make a donation to the newly-created Jonny Moseley Foundation for the Special Olympics.- San Fransico Examiner ********************************************************************** 2/22/98~ Olympic Gold medalist Jonny Moseley, who won the gold medal last week in Men's moguls, performed two daring jumps off a giant ramp in the theater district for a segment on "The Late Show with David Letterman." Jumping off a 40-foot high by 60-foot ramp lined with plastic carpet, Moseley repeated his trademark helicopter jump that helped him earn the 1st gold medal for the US in Nagano. He did a 360 degree spin in the air while grabbing one of his crossed skis, then landed on a huge air mattress in the middle of the street. On his 2nd leap, the 21 year old daredevil took off as a cannon across the ramp. He did both jumps during a downpour before hundreds of cheering fans next to the Ed Sullivan Theater, where the Letterman show is taped. "That was a lot scarier than Nagano."
