Article 99 is an irresistibly entertaining comedy-drama as current and relevant as today's headlines. When young and idealistic Dr. Peter Morgan (Kiefer Sutherland) joins the staff of a Veteran's Administration hospital, he is immediately plunged into a medical nightmare. Staff doctors are hiding patients in hallways, stealing pacemakers, hijacking supplies and scheduling unauthorized operations. All because needy patients are being denied appropriate treatment as a result of bureaucratic red tape and a corrupt hospital administrator. Led by maverick head surgeon Dr. Sturgess (Ray Liotta), Peter and the rest of the dedicated staff of doctors (Forest Whitaker, Lea Thompson, John McGinley) break rules, forge documents and do whatever it takes to provide necessary medical care for ailing U.S. veterans. This high-spirited and hilarious movie in the tradition of M*A*S*H, is beautifully acted by a wonderful all-star cast that also includes John Mahoney, Keith David, Kathy Baker and Eli Wallach.
