Coming Home scored Oscars for Jon Voight and Jane Fonda, masterfully cast as a couple caught up in a love powerful enough to heal the blistering ravages of the Vietnam War. Sally Hyde (Fonda) is serving stateside as a hospital volunteer when she meets paraplegic vet Luke Martin (Voight). Bruce Dern portrays the fatigued and tormented Captain Bob Hyde, a war hero who must now fight to recover his wife's love. Coming Home showcases the subtle skills of director Hal Ashby. An unsentimental look back at the 60's, it's a poignant - often humorous - and ultimately satisfying film.
