Paul Dietrich (Richard Dreyfuss) and Heidi Schoonover (Amy Irving) are competing against one another for one of the music world's most important awards. Tey shouldn't like each other. They should even be hostile. Instead, they fall in love. Exemplifying today's increasing rivalry between men and women, this appealing romantic comedy reminds us that a common ground will always remain - love. Paul is a 30-year-old concert pianist who realizes that this competition is his last chance for success and recognition. Heidi is the protege of a renowned teacher who warns Heidi that any romantic involvement could ruin her chances. But they do get involved and they both want very much to win. It is this competition which tests the strength of their love.
