As we meet them in their early twenties, Boyce has just quit the seminary, much to hs father's disappointment, and has taken a job at TRW. He is soon promoted to dealing with the company's top secret defense files, where he finds out about the CIA's tampering with elections overseas. Lee is a runaway paroled heroin addict, kept on the run between the U.S. and Mexico by the law and his narcotic deals. Boyce is driven by ideological disillusionment, Lee by greed and the need for excitement - together they enter the dangerous, deadly game of selling national secrets to the Russians.
