After this weekend's encounter they will play Inter Milan at Old Trafford on Wednesday in European Championship action. It was supposed to be Ronaldo vs Yorke, however the Brazilian is out with an injury.
At West Ham, Shaka Hislop will start against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. Last week West Ham tied Liverpool 2-2.
In Scotland, Russell Latapy and Hibernian will be looking for a "lucky 13" wins in a row when they face Ayr United. Last weekend, Latapy help setup Hibernain's first goal versus Falkirck in a 2-1 win.
Marvin Andrews and Raith Rovers will face Airdire. Last week Andrews was named man of the match in Raith encounter with Ayr United. They lost that game 4-2.
In Portugal, Leonson Lewis and E.Amadora will face Rio Ave. Last week they lost 3-0.
Finally, the national under 23 squad will face St. Vincent in a Olympic qualifyer in Port of Spain. They should go through after defeating St. Vincent 5-1 last month.
This should come as no surprise to many for once again we look like idiots. It seems that the top brass of the TTFF are incapable of arranging a international friendly without Jack Warner. Nexaca is a good team with many national stars. However there is a difference between a national team and a club team. I guess there is no other country in the world that could come to Trinidad and play the national team.
Just a little note to remember, this time next year the Gold Cup will be in full swing in either Miami, Los Angeles or San Diego.
Yorke to bolt to England?
Apparently, the FA are looking into a loop hole that could have Yorke play for England. Should this ever happen in a million years, it will open a can of worms that will not easily be closed. Disgruntled players could switch sides like they change there undershirts.
One example where this rule change could affect a nation's players is in Spain where immigration laws allows any person born on the South American continent to be considered Spanish citizens.
The national Under 17's were outdone by three factors, first better prepared teams in Mexico, El Salvador and Canada. Secondly, by just five weeks of practise and thirdly by an administration so intent on bowing to the needs of one man that they cannot tell their asses from there heads. Folks, I have reached a point where I am so fustrated that in the coming weeks I will be requesting that the TTFF become more accountable by enlisting your help.
The national under 17 team suffered some big loses in a bid to qualify for the World Youth Cup in New Zealand. They last Wednesday they opened the tournament with a 6-1 lost to host El Salvador. On Friday they lost to Mexico 6-2 and Sunday they continued there trend with a 6-0 lost to Canada.
Lets see what the TTFF has to say about this. In there twisted logic they would look at the two goals against Mexico as something to build on. Wow!
ManU progress in FA cup.
Andy Cole powered Manchester United to a 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday. That win propelled them into the FA Cup quaterfinals. Clint Marcelle and Barnsley also advanced with a 4-1 win over Bristol Rovers.
Manchester United are schedule to play Chelsea on March 6th. Barnsley will play the winner of the Tottenham-Leeds United replay.
In other action, Shaka Hislop and West Ham defeated Nottingham Forrest 2-1 in the Premeirship.
Tommorow Manchester Uinted will face Arsenal in what will definately be the game of the week.
In the starting lineup...
In the English first division, Clint Marcelle and Barnsley will face Norwich. Tony Rougier and Port Vale will face Woverhampton.
In the Scottish First division, both Russell Latapy and Marvin Andrews are off this weekend.
In Portugal, Leonson Lewis and E.Amadorra will face Sporting Lisbon.
Finally, to all of you in T&T, have a safe Carnival. I will have to wait until October to go to Miami to really enjoy mine.
Yorke scored in the 2nd and 66th minutes to give Man U a 4-1 lead. The day must have seen short for Yorke and Cole but a long one for the porus defense of Forrest. The win cemented Manchester United to the top of the table with 46 points.
The two goals by Yorke comes after his single effort versus Derby County late last week. ManU won that game 1-0.
Those three goals pushed Yorke's tally to 21 goals. He has 15 from league play that ties him with Aloisi of Coventry City. Yorke was also named English Premeirship player of the month of January.
In other league action Shaka Hislop and West Ham got shelled 4-0 by Arsenal.
Latapy scores but...
Despite the win they are still smarting from a 2-1 lost late last week which bounced them out of the Scottish Cup. The only goal came from Latapy just before the half-hour mark. The goal was Latapy's third goal of the year. Latapy was named Scottish First division player of the month for January.
In other news, Marvin Andrews scored his first goal of the season for
Raith Rovers in there encounter with St. Mirren. He rose above the St.
Mirren defenders to put away the only goal for Raith on Saturday. Despite
the score the Raith defense let in three other goals to fall 3-1.
The goal and most importantly the win by Manchester put them on the top of the table with 44 points one point ahead of Chelsea and Aston Villa. The score by Yorke pushed him into a three way tie in the scoring race with 18 goals that includes one FA cup goal and five European goals. He is also in a three way tie for most league goals with 12.
In other news, Shaka Hislop and West Ham tied Wimbleton 0-0.
In the English first division, the dismay continues for Tony Rougier and Port Vale. They lost to Ipswich Town 1-0. Clint Marcelle did not start for Barnsley as they took on Oxford United. Barnsley lost 1-0.
Latapy and Hibs continue good run.
The only thing in there minds should be the Scottish FA cup. They have a replay encounter with Stirling Albion tonight with a chance to move into the sweet sixteen. Should they win they will face Motherwell.
In other action, Marvin Andrews was named man of the match in Raith's encounter with Clydebank. Raith won the game 2-1.
Lewis gets last laugh.
