The Jacques Cartier
of 1934
Issued on July 1 1934

This issue celebrates the 450th anniversay of the Discovery of Canada by Jacques Cartier.

A popular issue, over 20 different cachets are known for it, by far the most for any Canadian issue so far. Because this stamp was issued on the same day as the 10 cents Loyalist stamp, a number of cachets really only appropriate to the Loyalist stamp can be found with the Cartier stamp. These are not shown.

Although no issued on the same day, and of a different design, this issue may qualify as the first joint issue of Canada with another country.

Two cachets by Lawrence Smith were issued, one for the Canadian issue, one for the one from France.
