Wrong Place, Wrong Time

"Oh man!" thought Maggie as she stood in line. "Friday at
the bank!" She fiddled with the checks in her hand. All of a
sudden three men in masks ran into the bank and started yelling
for everyone to get down. She felt her stomach drop as people
started screaming.
"Start putting the money in the bags as they come to you."
Shouted one of the gunmen as he passed a bag to the first teller.
"The rest of you just stay down and don't try anything
stupid." warned the other man.
Out of the corner of her eye she saw a movement over near
the wall. Gunfire shattered the silence as the gunmen shot a
guard.
"Anyone else feel like being a hero today?" sneered one of
the men.
Maggie glanced at the man next to her. He looked over at
her and gave her a small smile. "You okay?" his whispered.
Maggie nodded her head.
From outside the sound of sirens screamed around the corner
closest to the bank. "Oh crap, someone hit the alarm!" shouted
one of the men.
"What are we going to do now?" asked the man holding the
money.
"Not a thing." said his partner. "We have all the hostages.
We're going to wait, make our demands, and walk out of here with
the money. Okay, everyone listen up. You all do what we tell you
and no one gets hurt. I want everyone to slowly stand up with
your hands above your heads. Line up over there against the
wall."

Maggie got up and started to follow the man who had been
next to her on the floor. As he raised his hands she got a
glimpse inside of his jacket and saw a gun. He saw her staring.
When they got to the wall he leaned over and whispered "I'm FBI."
The phone on the desk rang and the gunman answered it.
"Hello?"
"This is Agent Bransen with the FBI, who is this?"
"Look, we have already killed one hostage. Either you
listen to our demands or another one will get it."
"We'll listen, just release the hostages." said Agent
Bransen.
"Not a chance! They're our way out!" replied the man.
"It would help if you released some of them." tried Agent
Bransen. "How about half?"
"Fine. But keep everyone away from that door, or we start
shooting." He turned to the hostages. "We're going to let some
go you go. You,you, you, you, and you, go over to the door." he
said pointing lastly at Maggie.
Maggie saw that the hostages left were the man who had been
next to her, the bank manager, and an older woman who looked
terrified. She knew that she was the only one who knew that the
man was a FBI agent and thought if she stayed, she might be able
to help him. "Excuse me," she said. "Why don't you let the lady
go? I'll stay in her place."
"Why the hell would you want to do that?" asked one of the
gunmen.
"Look, she's very frightened. She might end up collapsing
on you and then she would be more trouble than she is worth. I'm
young, I can handle the stress." explained Maggie.
"Fine, whatever." said the man.
"Thank you." said the woman as they exchanged places.
"Why did you do that?" whispered the FBI agent.
"I know, she doesn't. Maybe I can be of some help to you."
"You're nuts!" he said looking at her.
"You're welcome." she retorted. "Do you have a name or do I
just refer to you as G-Man?"
"Mulder. Fox Mulder." he whispered.
"I'm Maggie McCarthy, and I'm not a nut!" she replied
smiling.
Mulder just shook his head.

"Bank manager." called the gunman. "I want you to go with
my associate here and let him into the vault. The three of you
can help him carry out anything he's interested in."
Mulder looked at Maggie. "This might be our only chance."
he thought to himself.
"You're right. What do you want to do?"came back the answer
in his head.
Mulder stared at Maggie with his mouth hanging open.
"I'm telepathic. Get over and close your mouth. You look
like a fish." came the answer as Maggie sat and smiled at him.
"What do you think we should do?' he thought.
"Hey, I'm not the one who does this for a living. I'm just a
lowly college student. I follow directions really well though, so
when you come up with something, let me know." answered Maggie
silently.
"When we get into the vault, if we can get the weapon away
from that guy, we're down to only two against two. You ever shot
a gun?" he asked.
"Nope. But if we get the gun away from him and lock the
vault with us on the inside, the other two can't do a thing."
thought Maggie.
"You're right. I've got a cell phone. We could try calling
from inside and letting the folks outside know that they could
storm the place."
"Sounds good. You take care of our friend and I'll get the
door." Maggie informed him.
The four walked into the vault. As the gunman neared the
back of the vault, Mulder drew his gun and Maggie went for the
door.
"FBI- drop your weapon!" he shouted as Maggie slammed the
door and spun the lock.
The gunman looked at the door and back at Mulder. He raised
his gun at Mulder and both weapons went off simultaneously. The
gunman dropped to the floor with a bullet through his chest.
Mulder looked at Maggie and started to smile. Suddenly she
saw all the color drain from his face as he collapsed on the
floor.
Maggie ran to him. "Agent Mulder? Agent Mulder!" She saw
the bullet wound. It looked like a fairly clean shot through his
shoulder. "Hey, what's your name?" she asked the bank manager.
"Bob." he answered.
"Well Bob, do me a favor and take off your shirt. Start
ripping it into strips." Maggie instructed.
"Why?" he asked.
"I need something to use to put pressure on this wound." she
explained. The man did as she directed. She unbuttoned Mulder's
shirt and put one pad behind the wound and the other on the front
and started to apply pressure. "Look in his jacket and see if
you can find his phone."
Just as Bob found the phone, it rang. "Hello?" he answered.
"This is FBI Agent Scully. Where is the man who owns this
phone?"
"Ummmm, it's the FBI." he said handing the phone to Maggie.
"Who is this?" came the voice over the phone.
"This is Maggie McCarthy."
"Where is the man that owns this phone?" tried Scully again.
"He's right here. He has been shot and he's unconscious."
Maggie heard the other woman gasp.
"I'm his partner, Dana Scully. I'm also a medical doctor.
How bad is the gunshot wound?"
It's one shot that went cleanly through his shoulder. I've
got a pad on both sides and I'm applying pressure. I don't think
he realized that he was shot at first." Maggie told her.
"Keep the pressure on it and if he comes around, try to keep
him still." Scully instructed. "How many gunmen are there?"
"There are two left, but they're locked on the outside of
the vault and we're on the inside." responded Maggie.
"Okay, I'll let the officers here know what's going on. As
soon as it's clear, I'll let you know." Scully told her.
"No problem, but you'll have to have someone unlock the
vault. We can't do it from this side." Maggie said.
"As soon as we have these guys, we'll get right to you with
the paramedics." said Scully.

Maggie hung up the phone. Mulder began to stir. His eyes
fluttered open. "Hi!" she said smiling at him.
"Hi." he responded weakly. "What happened?'
"You're a great shot, but he wasn't a bad one either."
Maggie told him as she glanced over a the gunman lying on the
floor. "You've got one shot through your shoulder. You're going
to have to lay still so I can keep pressure on it for you."
"No problem. I don't feel much like moving right now any
way." he said trying to smile. "So tell me about your telepathic
abilities." he thought.
Maggie smiled. "Some how I knew this was coming. What do
you want to know?"
"Does it work with everyone or is it selective?" he asked.
"It's selective. I still haven't figured out why it only
happens with certain people. she answered.
"How long have you been able to do this?" he asked.
"Do you mind if we do this out loud for a while? It really
starts to wear me out after doing it for a period of time."
Maggie told him.
"Yeah! No problem. I didn't realize that it was so hard on
you."
"Are you feeling okay?" asked Maggie.
"Yeah, I guess." Mulder responded. "A little woozy."
"You're probably in shock." Maggie said as she took off her
jacket and put it over him.
"Where are the police?" interrupted Bob. "I have a meeting
with some friends at 6:30."
"I think they are working as fast as they can." growled
Maggie. "They know that Agent Mulder is injured and needs
medical attention. I think that rates a little higher in their
book than happy hour with your friends." she finished as Bob
glared at her and went back to the corner.
Maggie turned her attention back to Mulder. His eyes were
closed. "Agent Mulder? Agent Mulder!" she said shaking him
slightly. His eyes opened. "You need to stay with me, okay?"
He nodded.
"Where were we? Oh, I've had my ability since I was 15.
It's very sporadic, but it's getting better." Maggie told him.
"What do you do for the FBI?"
"Actually, I'm involved in cases that have to do with the
paranormal." Mulder told her.
"So you would be in charge of people like me?"
"Well, not in charge of, but I would investigate if there
was a problem." he explained. "What are you studying in
college?"
"Psychology. Kind of figures, doesn't it?" she said. "I
wonder what is taking them so long?"
"It takes time to get these operations together." Mulder
said.
Maggie noticed that Mulder was beginning to shake. "Are you
cold?" she asked.
"Yeah, a little." he admitted.
She picked up his phone. "What's your partner's number?"
"Don't call her, she'll just worry." he pleaded.
Maggie gave him her best glare. "Memory one." he grumbled.
"Scully..."
"Agent Scully, this is Maggie."
"What's wrong?" asked Scully.
"I've kept pressure on the wound, but he's feeling kind of
woozy and he's starting to shake. I've already cover him with my
jacket Is there anything else I can do?"
"Prop him up so his shoulder is above his heart, not
horizontal. Also, if you can get behind him and have him lean on
you, your body heat might keep him a little warmer." explained
Scully.
Maggie could hear the concern in her voice. "Okay, I'll do
my best. Do you want to talk to him?" she asked.
"Yeah."
Maggie held the phone out to Mulder. "Hey partner." he said
trying t sound like he wasn't in pain.
"Hey yourself. What am I going to do with you?" Scully
scolded. "I can't even let you go to the bank without ending up
in the hospital."
"Sorry Scully."
"It's okay. We'll be in there soon. You just do what your
new friend tells you and don't give her as much grief as you give
me when you're hurt."
"See you in a few." he said as Maggie took the phone back.
"Try not to worry. I'll take good care of him." she said .
"Thanks." answered Scully.

"I know this is going to hurt some, but your partner seems
to think that this is for the best. When Bob lifts, I'm going to
slide in behind you. Just lean right back on me okay?" Maggie
explained.
"Yeah."
"Okay, on three. One,two, three." said Maggie.
As the bank manager lifted Mulder, Maggie quickly scooted
behind him. She could hear Mulder groan and knew that he was
really in pain. "Carefully lower him back down." she directed.
"Now put the jacket over him. You okay Agent Mulder?"
He nodded yes, but she could feel him shaking. She put her
arms around him and tried to connect with him. "Relax." she
thought. "It'll be okay. Your partner said they would be here
shortly." She could feel that he still had not relaxed, that he
was holding himself off of her and causing himself a lot of pain
in the process. "Fox." she thought, waiting for a reply. "Fox,
answer me."
"What?" came his thought.
"Please just lean back and relax. You're not too heavy and
you really need to rest. This stress isn't helping anything."
"Are you sure?" he questioned.
"Yes, it's fine." She finally felt him starting to relax.
She noticed he wasn't shaking nearly as much.
Minuets later they heard gunshots on the other side of the
door and someone banging on it.
"Maggie? This is Agent Scully. We need the combination to
open the door."
The bank manager went to the door and yelled the
combination. The door swung open and Scully ran in followed by
paramedics. Scully saw her partner propped up against Maggie.
"Hey Scully." smiled Mulder. "I think for our next
paycheck, I'll try direct deposit."
Scully chuckled as the paramedics went to work on him.

TWO DAYS LATER............

Maggie looked both ways as she scooted out of the hospital
stairwell. She darted into room 203. Mulder looked up from the
file he was reading. "Someone order pizza?" she asked smiling.
"Really?" asked Mulder.
"Really. Sausage with extra cheese." Maggie told him.
"You are telepathic!" grinned Mulder.
"I got this message in the middle of a lecture this morning
that they were starving you to death over here. Oh, and
something about an iced tea? Maggie told him. "Did I get it
right?" she asked handing him a drink.
"Perfect! Listen, I really wanted to thank you for helping
me." Mulder said. "You put yourself in a lot of danger to do it."
"You're welcome. I'm glad it worked out. I was really
worried about you for a while." Maggie told him as she handed him
a piece of pizza. "Scully called me last night to tell me you
were going to be okay."

"Mulder! What do you think you are doing?" came the shout
from the doorway. Maggie and Mulder both jumped at Scully's very
angry sounding voice.
"Uh oh, busted." thought Maggie.
"Big time." thought Mulder.
"I leave you alone for 1 hour and you're eating pizza. You
know that's not on your diet! It's not soft or bland." Scully
lectured. "And you!" she snarled at Maggie who was hiding behind
Mulder on the opposite side of the bed. "You are not helping
matters any by smuggling this into him."
"Lighten up Scully, I'm hungry." said Mulder.
"Well, if this reacts with the medications you're taking and
you throw your guts up, don't look to me for sympathy."
"Want a piece?" he asked giving her his best puppy dog
look.
Scully shook her head. "Since you have someone to play with
for a while, I'm going to go finish some paperwork. Maggie,
don't let him talk you into anything else."
Maggie just smiled as a thought came through from Mulder.
"So want to help me break out of this joint?"
"Sounds fun........."

End-Hope you liked it!!!
