- It is an organisation which fosters an interest in a career in the Armed Services of Australia.
- It is run by Volunteers, who are scrutinised and selected by the Australian Army.
- The training is conducted by the youth members under the supervision of the adult Officers Officers of Cadets. As Cadets progress through the ranks, more and more responsibility is given to them.
WHAT DO WE DO???
- Each week we meet as a platoon at the various venues.
- Weekly training consists of a combination of theoretical and practical lessons to learn the following skills:
- Navigation
- First Aid
- Survival
- Bush Craft
- Water Craft
- Firearms Safety and Marksmanship
- Field Engineering
- Leadership
- Radio Telephone Communications
- And of Course Drill ...
- To complement weekly home training, the Cadets also attend several weekend bivouacs. There are at least four weekend bivies each year, and are held at Unit Strength. These Bivouacs consist of:
- Recruit Bivouac / Navigation Camp
- Hiking Weekend
- Adventure Training Weekends
- Camping Weekend
- In September Each Year, The Eastern Region host an Annual Camp. This camp is of 7 days duration and is an opportunity to polish skills learned in unit training. There are over 2500 cadets present at the camp, from all over Eastern Region (NSW).
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ???
- Cadet Uniforms are provided to Cadets by the Australian Army. This Uniform, and all other issued equipment is free, but must be returned to the Unit upon discharge.
- Basic equipment is also provided by the Army. At Annual Camp, we are able to borrow some additional equipment from our foster army unit.
- A small voluntary donation of $20.00 per year, is requested from 1999. This donation will enable us to purchase Unit Stores such as Stationery, Badges, and Field Equipment not issued by the Army. In addition it allows us to subsidise bus-fares to Unit Bivouacs.
- Remember this is a voluntary donation. The unit is open to all people regardless of socio-economic status. In addition, a small fee is charged at each bivouac etc, to cover the cost of consumables, and bus fares etc.
- If a parent/guardian finds it difficult to meet these bivouac fees, a subsidy program is available. Contact the Commanding Officer for details. All details are strictly confidential
