Q:Sampling and cover songs, how do I get permission?
A:Contact the Harry Fox Agency in New York. Once a song has been recorded and released, anyone is free to record it as long as the statutory royalty of 7.1 cents per song is paid to the writer/publisher. HFA will issue the license to you, collect your payment, and distribute your payment to the proper writer/publisher. It is very easy. Harry Fox Agency is at 212-370-5330. You can process the license online through through the National Music Publishers Association http://www.nmpa.org
