In Vain?
Woei Hern

How can you embrace the light,
when there's no darkness to run away from?
How would you be able to paint,
white on white,
and claim to make it pure?
Or would it be the same if you waited in vain,
when the world goes on and on...
Have you grown impatient?
Weary?
Would it all seem easier,
if time were not to test you at all?
Grind your very soul,
but enjoy misery,
joy would never taste as sweet without it.
Truly, the fine sands beneath your feet,
would not kiss you as softly,
were it the rough stones as before...
But patience,
the gentle caressing of the waves,
the laughter of the sea,
has waited for this very moment,
for you to meet their handiwork.
Go ahead,
they're waiting,laugh...
smile...
the world was made for you.
So nothing is ever in vain,
some things take longer to bear fruit,
and in more ways than one...
So walk away,
you've done your part,
there's no point,
chasing a setting sun......Let

night set in,
there will be another dawn,
another day...
Meanwhile the stars accompany you,
the moon shines where the sun let off,
not as bright,
but could you have looked at the sun,
the way you would the moon?
Lingering,
do you miss the warmth?
I don't blame you,
but chill winds embrace you,
bathing you in the shadows,
do you smile and embrace it back,
or do you cower and wait,
for dawn to break free once more?
I say the sun mightn't shine as bright,
if weren't for the night...
And the stars wouldn't reach you,
with their dying breath,
their lingering song,
if the sun were to shine a moment longer...
The stars sing of hope in such bittersweet sorrow,
their echoes raining down,
symphony of glittering sparkles,
they sing...
Go ahead, they're waiting,
they died for you,to see you smile,
to see you laugh.
Nothing is for naught,
so long as you're not lingering a moment too long,
even mountains sigh,
even the earth shivers and tremble,
it vents it's anger,
tiring of idleness,
and in frustration,
they long for the seas to embrace them,
and those in the seas,
long to touch the sky,
all is beautiful...
You who waited in vain,
the worlds is with you,
and one day,
you will find a star,
that will come to you,to call your very own.
