Leoardo's mother(Irmelin DiCaprio) was strolling through an art gallery and stopped to look at a painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. She suddenly recieved a swift kick in the womb from her unborn baby,and hence named him Leonardo!Leo was born on November 11,1974. He is now consided one of the best actors in his generation.
His family was relatively poor and he first started acting to make money for his family. Leo often cheated in school(especilly in Math)& says "School, I never truly got the knack of. I could never focus on things I didn't want to learn."
The thing that first inspired Leonardo to seriously try acting was when his stepbrother,Adam earned $50,000 from doing a Golden Grahams commerical."It just kept going through my head:My brother has 50,000 dollars!And that kept on being my driving force. I just remember that for,like,five years thinking my brother was better than me because he had that,"says Leo.
Leo first starting by doing a large range of commericals including one for Matchbox Cars. Leo's acting debut was on the show "Romper's Room" when he was five.
When he was ten,Leo remembers after being rejected from a casting call he cried to his dad "Dad I really wanted to become an actor,but if this is what it's all about I don't want to do it." His Dad then put his arm around him and said "Someday Leonardo,it will happen for you."
And it sure has! Leo's big break was his preformance as Tobias Wolff in "This Boy's Life" with Robert De Niro,and since then he has starred in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?"(For which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor),"The Basketball Diaries","The Quick and the Dead","Total Eclipse" as well as my favorite movie of all time "Romeo + Juliet" with Clarie Danes. His most recent movies are "Marvins Room" and "Titanic". He will also be staring in "The Man in the Iron Mask"
Leo's brilliant talent has already won him many awards and we all know there is more to come!
