Characterization of the hemagglutinin (H) protein of peste des
petits ruminants virus (PPRV) and the detection of hemagglutination
inhibition antibodies in naturally and experimentally infected small
ruminants. The study unequivocally established PPRV as the second
member of the Morbillivirus subfamily of the family Paramyxoviridae
to exhibit the property of hemagglutination. The results indicated
that hemagglutination could be used as a simple diagnostic test to
differentiate between PPR and the clinically similar rinderpest.
