MISSISSIPPI John C. Gentry enlisted in Company I, 36th Infantry Regiment, Mississippi Volunteers on Feb 24, 1862 for 12 months in Captain Redmond D. Ogletree's Company (Stephens Guards). They mustered in Meridian, MS. On May 30, 1862 he increased his enlistment to 3 yrs or the duration of the war. He died a few weeks later in the hospital at Columbus, MS. for unknown reasons. JOHN C. "JACKSON" GENTRY was born Abt. 1837 in Georgia, and died 06-26-1862 in Columbus, MS. He married SARAH CORNETT 12-22-1858 in Russell Co., AL, daughter of HENRY CORNETT and EMILY SPIVEY. NORTH CAROLINA Stephen Pleasant Gentry b. 1837 - d. 1926 (Abednego, Shadrack, Allen A., Samuel, Nicholas) Residence: Person Country, NC Volunteered for service as a private in Company H (the Person Invincibles) of the 24th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry, on 12 May 1862. His service was continous through the end of the war except for a six month leave of absence in 1864. He was captured on April 3, 1865 and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland. and released on 14 June 1865. His service record states that he was awarded the confederate roll of Honor. Abednego Francis Gentry (Abednego, Shadrack, Allen A., Samuel, Nicholas) b. 1839 d 1903. Residence: Person Co., NC Bedney inlisted as a private in Company H (the Person Invincibles) of the 24th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry on 10 June 1864 in Petersburg, VA. He was taken prisoner and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland. Released on 14 June 1865. Thomas Ruffin Gentry b.1830 - d. 1864 (Abednego, Shadrack, Allen A., Samuel, Nicholas) Thomas enlisted in Company E (the Person Boys) of the 35th Regiment North Carolina Infantry on 6 March 1862 at Roxboro. Died in battle at Plymouth, NC. He was awarded the Confederate Roll of Honor. James Larkin Gentry b. 1833. (Abednego, Shadrack, Allen A., Samuel, Nicholas) Residence: Person Co., NC. James enlisted in Company E (the Person Boys) of the 35th Regiment, NC Infantry on 20 July 1862. He was captured on April 2, 1865 and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland and released on 27 June 1865. Pleasant Thomas Gentry b. 1843 d. 1916. (Allen, Shadrack, Allen A. Samuel, Nicholas) Residnece Person Co., NC Pleasnat endlisted in Company F of the 17th Regiment, NC Infantry on 25 Feb. 1862. Barron, Nan Polk Brady, Emma Gene Seale Gentry, Barbara Langham Goudreau, and Iris Higgins Zimmerman Frederic B. Gentry, Hamilton Co., TX., 9 Dec. 1870, approved. Age 60. In March 1836 he was a pvt. in Capt. Wm. W. Hill's Company of Infantry, Col. Burleson's Reg't. & served in the Battle of San Jacinto. John M. Swisher and James Farmer, Travis Co., knew Gentry & affirmed his service. James Farmer, Comanche, Comanche Co., 10 Dec. 1870, approved. Age 70. In March 1836, he was a pvt. in Capt. W. W. Hill's Company of Infantry and served in the Battle of San Jacinto. Jno. M. Swisher and F.B. Gentry, Travis Co., affirmed identity. Power of Attorney to J.D. Stephens, Austin, from Farmer & F.B. Gentry, Sept. 1874. There were no other Gentry's in the book. If anyone is interested in pursuing any of those mentioned in the book, they should consult the Texas State Archives. I ran across the following information from "Roster of S.C. Patriots in the
American Revolution" by Bobby Gilmer Moss, pub. GPC 1983. There are ref. to

addition he was in the siege of 96 and guarded baggage during battles at Kings
Mtn & Cowpens. (Moved to KY)  X1099.
