Gentry's Will, VA, 1853 GENTRY, Henry D. "I, Henry D. Gentry of the County of Hanover .....do make this my last will and testament. ... 1. I give unto my son David A. Gentry my slaves Robin and Spencher. ... 2nd. I give unto my son John H. Gentry my slaves Jesse & Ben. ... 3rd. I give unto my daughter Martha V. A. Gentry my slaves Pete, Rachael and Thomas ... 4th. I give unto my daughter Elizabeth I. Gentry my slaves Scinthy, Sarah and William. ... 7. It is my will and desire and I hereby so direct that my wife Martha in the event that any of my slaves be disobedient, or conduct themselves in such a way as in her opinion require it have the privilage and power of selling them and that she have the choice of either dividing the proceeds of the sale between my children or appropriating it to the purchase of other slaves to be still considered as part of my estate loaned her... ...
