About Nauikae Chinese Shar-Pei
*
I got my first pei in 1988............I was looking for a short haired dog
after raising a Samoyed and an American Eskimo for 8 years...........my
daughter a baby at the time developed ashma   It was very hard at first to
even find a shar-pei around here but we managed to find some and I thought not so
much fur floating would be better for my daughter. She was not allergic to
dogs. So that is a reason why I decided on a pei. Plus I like the unusal and
back then in old backwards Mississippi it was a rarity.

I was looking for a cool name for a kennel name............at this
particular time I was dealing with Korean people for the supply of eel skin
products for a accessory store that I owned and was looking in a Korean
dictionary and came across the word NAUIKAE which means "MY DOG"      and
named my first shar-pei Kimchi which is a Korean food thus "Nauikae Kimchi" and
used Nauikae ever since for every pup I produced. Kimchi was never bred
because of numerous health problems and severe dysplasia.

My main passion is to produce show quaility reds, chocolates and creams.
Top priority is health and structure and everything else is a plus. I do not
have many litters, maybe 1 every 12 -18 months. I produced more in the past but
with the threat of "A" the fewer pup the less heartache. I usually only bred
for myself  in hopes for that next show puppy.  But I cannot keep all, because of
very limited space so I will sell the rest of the pups usually to a pet
home, unless there is another drop dead gorgeous pup in the litter, then I will
hold on to it for a prospective show person.

My first Champion while shar-pei were not AKC accepted yet was Ch. Smuglr's
Iggy Pop,and after him was his son Ch. Nauikae Winter Wonderman, and Iggy's
grandson, Ch.Nauikae Nestley Cruncher and then a female that I bought named
Ch.Gemstone Nauikae Jazzamatazz

After becoming AKC, My first AKC champion was Ch. Nauikae Nestley
Cruncher, which I devistaed lost at the tender age of 3,then Ch. Smuglr's
Eli,which is now 5 years old,and Ch. Sassafras' Like A Rock which is also 5
years old. At the present time I am working on the championship od Stille A'
Statesman, that is 2 single points away.He is almost 2 years old.

My first brood bitch is TuJ's Nauikae Mink M'chacha (chocolate) which has
just turned 9 years old.The others were Dingoho Nauikae Free Spirit, which was
accidently let out and hit by a 18 wheeler and litter sisters Nauikae Kitkat
and Nauikae Pei Kan Pie(both choco) Kitkat was stolen and Pie died when she
was 7 in the care of a friend. She was never checked for cause, but one minute
she was fine and 1 hour later she was gone(vet thinks either heart attack or
bloat)

My very first male was Nauikae Beijing,Nauikae Rudabaga,Dingoho Jomoka Joe,
and Sunquest Nauikae Chuck-let-e. The first 2 were displastic and never bred,
JJ has demodex and I never bred him and Chuckie was an excellent producer of
many, many fine puppies, including Nestley and Nestley's brothers
spike,zerrox,ching-chuck,and sisters Frannie and Roca(resides in Paris)

I took the great health and stucture quality of M'chacha and Iggy pups and
blended it into the good health and type of  Chuckie and his offspring, and got
the best of both worlds.........

We also have a part time junior handler,my daughter Stephanie, that has
helped me a great deal in the past. She showed in juniors on a very very
limited basis and did recieve 2 best junior handler awards. She is not really
interested any more,the teenage thing.......boys!!

After shar-pei were recognized AKC, I slacked off on the creams and chocolates
and concentrated more on the red and red fawns, with black mask. And that is
what I mostly produce. I dabbled into the blues but after 2 years I realized
that was not for me.  But to my surprise, I had my first litter in almost 2
years and what were we blessed with? Creams !! Proud parents are Stille A'
Statesman and Shengli Dazlin RedHead
