Penn And Teller Get Killed - A Review
“Penn and Teller Get Killed” is the first and only movie featuring the sick magical duo,
and it’s really not that bad. The magical duo play themselves and announce on a
television show that they would love to have someone attempt to kill them, only someone
takes it a bit too seriously. The movie is mainly a centerpiece to show their magic skills,
but the story is alright, and the magical team can function on the main screen.
If you already don’t know, Penn Jilette is the tall one with the glasses and one fingernail
painted red. He is the one that does all of the talking and the straight man of the group.
Teller is the comic relief, always the victim of their magical acts, and never, ever speaks.
As the film progresses, the two, always practical jokers, play some really nasty, and
funny, tricks on each other while they perform at Atlantic City, but the film takes a
surprising serious turn when the obsessed fan shows up, very well played by David
Patrick Kelly. His stalking and abduction of Teller bring a twisted turn to the already sick
duo, but the surprise is at the ending when it turns out that the whole thing was a joke. It
results in Teller shooting Penn and then killing himself. The film ends when many people
enter the room, see the dead bodies, and begin to take their own lives. Again, weird and
twisted, but a surprise. I’ll have to compare this to the “X-Files” movie in that it’s strictly
for fans, but appeals to the general audience.
Sizemore has a very brief role as mugger #2. He appears an hour into the film and pulls a
knife on Teller unerneath an Atlantic City boardwalk. He has only four lines of dialogue
and sports a New Jersey accent. His screen time is only a little over a minute, but stands
out.
