19 Jun '99 - TOM & MAEVE SIGN GUESTBOOK!!!

Undoubtedly the greatest thing to have happened to Scagnetti's since it's arrival a year ago is a guestbook signing by Tom Sizemore and Maeve Quinlan themselves! They have also signed Maeve's site. I don't need to tell you how thrilled I am by this and, as well as giving my humble thanks to Tom and Maeve, I'd just like to thank everyone who has contributed to the site and everyone who's visited Scagnetti's in the last year. For those of you who haven't seen the message, go see the guestbook now!

THE MATCH BEGINS!!!

At long last 'The Match' hits UK cinema screens on July 9th. The film, starring Tom as Buffalo, was shot last Summer in Scotland and also stars Ian Holm, Richard E. Grant and Pierce Brosnan. For a full cast list, synopsis and James Vaughan's review of the movie, please see the filmography page. Many thanks to Polygram films for allowing us to attend a press screening on 8th June in London.

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN TO RENT!!!

Already availible to rent in the U.S., 'saving Private Ryan' is now availible to rent in the U.K. Released on June 8th it is sure to do great business...if it doesn't I'll just have to start burning people!!!

OTHER NEWS!!!

Susan , Tom's agent, no longer works for PMK. She does, however, still represent Tom...Hoorah! Speaking to Susan recently, she informed me that Tom is just back from filming 'Play It To The Bone' with Antonio Banderas and Woody Harrelson. U.K. magazine 'Heat' recently ran a feature on the movie but Tom wasn't featured - bunch of amateurish gypsys!!!

Tom's P.A. for the last couple of years, Billy Budd, no longer works for him. There is still a link to the site I began for him but as I never received any biographical information for the site I have been unable to progress with it. I'd just like to take the opportunity to thank Billy for all his help and wish him all the best for the future. Also many thanks to Scott for his help in the short time he was our U.S. correspondent. We still need that info though kids so keep it coming!

Florentine Review/Synopsis (printed below)

Florentine Review

It's a story you've heard before. Lifelong friends grow up and older in a desperate town where things always stay the same. They love. They fight. They marry. One of them escapes, only to return for the event that will change everybody's lives. This time, it's a movie called "The Florentine."

The title, named after the local pub, may be the only original thing about it. Starring such familiar names as Christopher Penn, Michael Madsen and Tom Sizemore, the movie has a hard time earning its "indie" status. Most likely, the only reason it's not a major release is that it doesn't convincingly tread its well-covered territory. The big name cast seems to be its only justification for being.

So here it's Jeremy Davies playing another skinny, goofy tagalong. Michael Madsen changes gears as the good-natured, white-haired bar keep. Chris Penn plays a boxer past his heyday. Tom Sizemore is the friend who makes it home for his ex-girlfriend's wedding.

Where will all their paths lead? What kind of bonding experiences will they share? Which buddies will good-naturedly chase after the newylweds' car? Easy. Rent the real originals, "Diner" and "The Deer Hunter," to find out.

Chuck Walton

Synopsis

In a post-industrial American mill town that time has forgotten, there is a bar called the Florentine where a group of childhood friends hang around. Sitting at the bar, they have traveled a circuitous passage to maturity through the ideal lives they expected to inherit to the ordinary ones they are living. Life in their town unfolds in sluggish rhythm until a pending marriage threatens to forever change the lives of all involved. Written by Tom Benson and directed by Nick Stagliano, The Florentine's vividly familiar characters are lovingly portrayed by a talented star-studded ensemble of actors. Together, this troupe tells a soulfully cinematic, harshly realistic tale of a dying American dream and a few hopeful friends struggling to keep it alive.

Theatre Website Featuring Tom

Theatre Arts are Tough Even for a Tough Guy

When Tom Sizemore was 14, The New York Times reported on 22 January 1999, he saw Martin Scorsese's movie, Taxi Driver. "Almost immediately," Sizemore said, " I knew I wanted to be an actor, but I had to keep it a secret, because I was from the east side of Detroit." Being an actor was not high on the list of acceptable career goals in his neighborhood. As one of Hollywood's favorite tough guys, Sizemore built his early career playing cops and crooks. It has been a long road to playing complex characters in first class movies. The role of the sergeant in Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan playing opposite star Tom Hanks has been a big jump forward in his career.

Now 35 years old, Tom Sizemore played tough guys in movies like Heat and Natural Born Killers and Devil in a Blue Dress. The road from East Detroit to "tough guy" to "sensitive guy in good roles" took many turns. He was a waiter at O'Henry's in the Village. He worked for catering companies, sold newspapers over the phone, cold-calling people out of the phone book.

His break into theatre began Off Broadway productions in roles in such plays as The Indian Wants the Bronx.. Finally, he landed a small part in Oliver Stone's Born on the Fourth of July and his film career took off. Before the role alongside Hanks in Private Ryan, Sizemore also play opposite Nicolas Cage in Scorsese's Bring Out the Dead.

He believes he has been lucky in his professional and his personal life and is married to Maeve Brennan, an actress in the daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. They live together in California, outside Los Angeles.

When an actor such as Sizemore bursts on our consciousness with roles such as his "breakthrough" in Private Ryan, it often appears to be an overnight success. When in reality, Tom Sizemore has worked many years at his craft -- and at other jobs -- to make this overnight success a reality.

Every actor needs to know how to balance a tray.

03 Apr '99 - HAPPY EASTER!!!

logo

Hi Guys! I'm back with the folks for the Easter weekend and, as I'm still waiting for full internet access, have decided to take advantage of the situation and update the site. I know that Becky and Jellybean have been working hard on stuff for the site and we'll be bringing you that as soon as we can. Many thanks to Jellybean for the advertisement on the left!

Anyway, lots to tell so I'll get on with it. Most of you will have seen the Oscars and will know that, as well as Gwyneth sobbing at exactly the same time as she did when she read the speach out at the Golden Globes, 'Saving Private Ryan' won five Academy Awards Including Best Director, for Steven Spielberg, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing,Best Sound and Best Sound Effects Editing. In the US the film premieres on Home Video May 25, (DreamWorks Home Entertainment). The top-grossing motion picture of the year, ``Saving Private Ryan'' generated $210 million at the box office to date.

Our mates at AINT IT COOL have announced that THE FLORENTINE will have it's world premiere at the 5th annual LOS ANGELES INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL, April 15 - 20, 1999. Anyone who is going should know that Scagnetti's will be pleading with you for a review!!!

At this year's Screen Actor's Guild awards Tom and Maeve were spotted. The person who spotted them wishes to remain nameless but, after fainting with joy, has begun bragging about having the moment recorded to the rest of us! SATAN! Tom was asked about the death of legendary director Stanley Kubrick earlier this month at the ceremony, he said "He was right on the cutting edge. Always has been."

Susan found some info on 'Play It To The Bone' on the Hollywood Reporter site:

Tom Sizemore, who received solid critical nods for his work in "Saving Private Ryan," will join Woody Harrelson, Antonio Banderas and Lolita Davidovich in Ron Shelton's "Play It to the Bone."

Sizemore will play a big-time Las Vegas promoter in the film about two washed-up boxers who get a chance to fight in Las Vegas when there is a last-minute dropout. He was repped on the deal by UTA and Beth Holden at Propaganda Management. The movie, which rolls next month, will be produced by Stephen Chin and distributed by Buena Vista. After "Bone," Sizemore begins production on the indie film "Cupid Tattoo," a thriller about a policewoman who falls in love with a former rock star, acquitted for murder, whom she is assigned to protect. The film co-stars Sizemore's wife Maeve Quinlan.

Following that gig, Sizemore will star in "Interstate," which will be directed by Louis Couvelaire and produced by Renny Harlin, Amanda Stern and Paul Brooks.

Susan also announced that Tom was slated to attend a special screening of DreamWorks Pictures' ``Forces of Nature'' on Friday, March 12 at Mann's Village Theatre in Westwood. Does anyone know if he appeared?

Right folks, that's about all the news I have for now (James, I hope you're satisfied! LOL) so until next time, take care and be sure not to run infront of moving buses!

04 Mar '99 - GOODBYE FOR NOW!!!

Okay kids, I'm on the move to London tomorrow so I won't be around for a few weeks. I'll be back on-line within the month though so until then take care and check out the latest news on http://www.dhc.net/~ike/tsframe.html, Susan's page on Mr Sizemore!

02 Mar '99 - NEW FILM FOR TOM AND MAEVE!!!

I have 'borrowed' the following piece from Susan's Unofficial Tom Sizemore Page. Well done on the scoop Matey! The article was on Yahoo! News-Entertainment Headlines on Sunday February 28.

HOLLYWOOD(Variety) - Tom Sizemore (``Heat,'' ``Saving Private Ryan'') and Maeve Quinlan will star in the indie thriller ``Cupid Tattoo.''

The story is about a police officer who finds love, and trouble, when she's assigned to protect an ex-rock star who has been acquitted of murder.

Producer Eva Montealegre and David Carmichael wrote the screenplay.

Check out a great new 'Saving Private Ryan' tribute site by clicking on http://www.abstract-reality.com/cinema/drama/saving_private_ryan/!

25 Feb '99 - NEW FANZINE!!!

The March fanzine was put on-line today. It's not quite as lavish as the last one but hopefully still worth a look. The Fanzines have now been taken over by Becky and Jellybean (not her real name!!) and I know from now on they will be better than ever. To see my last attempt at a Fanzine (sob!), click HERE!

23 Feb '99 - JERRY'S COME-BACK TOUR!!!

Well, I couldn't do it! I just can't let Scagnetti's go by the wayside. I'll still be moving to London within the next three weeks but I will still be able to update the site thanks to a friend's computer.

While I'm here, there's this bit of news:

Actors enter HBO's ``Witness Protection'' By Richard Katz NEW YORK (Variety) - Forest Whitaker, Tom Sizemore and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio will star in HBO's ``Witness Protection,'' a drama based on a New York Times story detailing how criminal turncoats are trained for a life underground.

The film will follow a family's experiences during an intensive five-day preparation period at a secret government facility. Shooting will begin March 1, and the film will premiere on the pay cable network in July. Reuters/Variety

15 Feb '99 - WANTED! NEW WEBMASTER!!!

It is with a heavy heart that I am forced to do this but I am looking for a new webmaster for Scagnetti's. I am due to move to London in the next few weeks and have no way of keeping the site as up to date as I would like. Any news I get from Billy Budd I will continue to bring to you via the site but for general news etc I need help. If you're interested in taking over as the webmaster on Scagnetti's please E-Mail me as soon as possible. Thank you all for your support over the last year. I'm not gone yet so feel free to get in touch with me.

10 Feb '99 - ‘THE LEAGUE’ IS OFF!!!

Okay folks, I’ve got a couple of news exclusives for you. Tom’s wonderful PA, Billy Budd, phoned me last night regarding some great events we are hoping to bring you in the coming months….more on that nearer the time – I’m such a tease! LOL

Billy informed me that Tom pulled out of Oliver Stone’s troubled new film ‘The League’/ ‘On Any Given Sunday’ a few months ago. Instead, Tom’s next project will be ‘Witness Protection,’ that he mentioned on the AOL chat. The movie is a big budget production for HBO and Tom has the lead role.

As you know, work completed on ‘Bringing Out The Dead’ in December and according to Billy, Martin Scorsese has produced a very dark picture that has remained true to the book. Tom plays Tom Walls, an old partner of paramedic Nicolas Cage, and evidentally the two actors got on famously during filming.

Billy also reassured us that Tom is not too disappointed about not being nominated and told me that it appears that Tom and Jeremy Davies ended up cancelling each other out in the nominations.

I’d just like to thank Billy for getting in touch and giving us the information.

News on 'The League' comes to us from Jellybean (air-kisses to ya babe!). From the Hollywood Reporter, the article is printed below.

Stone 'League' signs Caviezel
Jim Caviezel ("The Thin Red Line") has signed to portray Al Pacino's son in Oliver Stone football drama "The League." "The League," which also stars Dennis Quaid, James Woods and Edward Burns, centers on personal and professional dramas that swirl around the fictitious Miami Sharks football team. The film is produced by Stone, Dan Halstead, Lauren Shuler-Donner and Clayton Townsend. Formerly known as "Any Given Sunday," the film is shooting in Miami but Caviezel is not expected to join the team until March. 24 Jan '99 - GOOD LUCK IN THE GLOBES TONIGHT!!!

All you Americans get to sit and watch the 56TH ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS tonight from 8-11PM on NBC. The rest of us don't so give an extra cheer each time 'Saving Private Ryan' is mentioned, (Hey! Why not turn it into a drinking game!!!). Entertainment Weekly's write up said this:

Strangely, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's plaudits seem more influential every year, despite some downright inscrutable nominations (on what planet is Lance Henriksen the best actor in a TV drama?). From a viewing standpoint, though, it'll be good fun to see if any of their wackier selections walk away with statuettes--and to watch Jack Nicholson snag their Cecil B. DeMille Award.

So now you know!

23 Jan '99 - SOMETHING TO CHEER NON-AOL MEMBERS UP!!!

Just to cheer up all of us who were unable to join in with Tom's AOL chat the other night, I have added two more screen capture galleries to the Filmography page. They are for 'The Relic' and 'Heart And Souls.'

Also following on from yesterday, I have posted the 'Face of 1998' article on Tom on the articles page. Check it out here. Many thanks to Tara for doing the typing!!!

11 Jan '99 - TOM HANKS WINS FOR 'RYAN'!!!

Tom Hanks won the award for 'Favorite Motion Picture Actor' at last night's People's Choice Awards. Susan Sarandon presented Tom with the award, and he explained that the men he and the other actors were portraying in Saving Private Ryan were dying off at the rate of 1,000 a day. He said that there was currently no monument to them in Washington D.C. and gave out a number where they're raising funds to build one. The number is 1-800-639-4WW2 (1-800-639-4992).

The other two awards 'Saving Private Ryan' was nominated for, 'Favorite Motion Picture' and 'Favorite Dramatic Motion Picture,' both went to 'Titanic.'

Also, many thanks To Jellybean for confirming that Tom DOES NOT appear in the film 'American Strays' as reported yesterday. Cheers Matey!

10 Jan '99 - WAS TOM IN 'AMERICAN STRAYS'???

Amazon.com, one of the on-line video strores has it listed that Tom appeared alongside Luke Perry and Eric Roberts in the 1995 movie, 'American Strays.' Can anyone confirm or deny this for me?

Also, don't forget the 'People's Choice Awards' on US CBS television tonight. Don't forget to cheer at the screen each time 'Saving private Ryan' is mentioned. Good luck guys!

08 Jan '99 - FAN CLUB REQUESTS!!!

Scagnetti's has received another request about a Tom Sizemore fan club today. 07 Jan '99 - 'RYAN' VIDEO DATE POSSIBILITY!!!

According to a Tom Hanks e-mail newsletter, it is thought that 'Saving Private Ryan' will see a video release in the US in late March or early April. The author goes on to say that "I'm sure the box will contain the words: Winner of __ Academy Awards." We won't argue with that one! Many thanks to Jellybean for bringing us the news.

I would just like to say that your messages are greatly appreciated and are really inspiring to me. Today, however, two messages were removed from Scagnetti's Guestbook. Although they were both complimentary, neither were considered respectful to visitors of the site or to Tom himself. There, that's my 'Jerry gets serious' lecture over!!

04 Jan '99 - PHEW! ALMOST THERE!!!

We are nearly done on the make-over and have added an extra page for Soundtracks. You can reach the page via the filmography page. Also included on the page is a very reliable on-line store for ordering the discs.

02 Jan '99 - FILM MAG CUTTINGS!!!

As you will have noticed by now, we’re in the middle of updating Scagnetti’s to make it look a little fresher for the new year. Please be patient, it will be completed in the next couple of days.

The movie mags for January have had a few bits in them. Premiere has an article on ‘The Thin Red Line,’ the important bits of which can be found on the articles page.

Total Film vote ‘Saving Private Ryan’ to be their 12th greatest film of the year, the winner is ‘The Truman Show,’ (no accounting for taste!), though the reader’s poll results have ‘Saving Private Ryan’ at number one – as ever, the customer is always right! The big news, however, is that next month in Total Film, there is an article on ‘Bringing Out The Dead’ with cast interviews.

Scagnetti’s have awarded Neon the ‘Maybe I’m thinking of Someone else!’ award for their interview with Meatloaf (‘Bat Out Of Hell’ and other painful moments). In it the interviewer asks ‘Meat,’ “If a casting director can’t get you, who do they get instead?” His response was “Scorsese was very interested in me doing this role with Nicholas Cage in…what was it called…Bring Out The Dead.” The interviewer then anounces, “That went to Tom Sizemore.” Meat replies “Oh, Tom Sizemore’s doing it? I heard (John) Goodman was doin’ it.” Incidentally, ‘Saving Private Ryan’ came 7th in the Neon Top 20 Films of 1998. ‘Boogie Nights’ won.

01 Jan '99 - 'HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Happy New Year to all visitors of Scagnetti's. Now in our second year, I would just like to thank you all for your support and encouragement. With 'The Match,' 'The Florentine' and 'Bringing Out The Dead' due to to be released this year, there's gonna be a lot to bring you in the next twelve months! Have a great 1999! Also, you may have noticed that we are currently making over the site, thanks to Jaynie Do-Nut. Please be patient with us!
