Watch It! - A Review

Okay, if you've ever shared a house with someone you will be able to identify with all the events and little mishaps that occur in this movie. Tom shares a house with Jon Tenney, Peter Gallagher and John C McGinley in a tale of four twenty-something males who are finding their way through life (no, it's not 'Friends!') as they out-do each other with the ultimate game of 'Watch-it!,' where the only rule is never get angry.

Cousins Michael and John, (Gallagher and Tenney, respectively), spend the movie trying to win the same girl, a veterinarian with an assistant cooler than she could ever be, (played by the brilliant Lili Taylor). Rick, (McGinley), a salesman, is terrified of commitment and spends his time running from it. The fourth housemate, Danny (you guessed it…TOM!), runs his own automobile shop and is the most grounded of the household, spending his time drinking, playing sport and chasing women.

I didn't know what to expect from this movie and to be honest I wasn't that impressed. Tom was great as Danny, the character really suited him, and, together with Lili Taylor, was the only person you didn't want to punch for being so lame. My biased against this film is not a good one. I'm afraid I can't stand Peter Gallagher! Don't know why. Didn't like him in 'Short Cuts' or 'While You Were Sleeping.' Don't much like him in this. Just me I guess. Just call me anal!

John C McGinley, (who also produced the picture), is a brilliant actor and isn't bad in this. His character is the typical 'little boy who can't grow up' and it was a very different role to see him play. Jon Tenney, I only knew as Lois Lane's husband and as far as I'm concerned he's not worth a great deal more. Sorry, that's just my opinion! The two girlfriends in the film, (played by Suzy Amis and Cynthia Stevenson), were as wet as Hell and added absolutely nothing to it.

Again, I'd say watch this picture for Tom, who is really cool and always is anyway, and Lili, who also put in a really good performance. If, however, you're a fan of romantic comedies that, yet again, pick up on the phrase 'boys will be boys,' (in a Chandler & Joey kind of way), this is the film for you.
