"The Beast"
Our price: $25.49 | You save: $4.46
..order here
The director of "Waterworld" teams up with playwright William
Mastrosimone for a story of a lost Russian tank during the Afghan
war. Despite its offbeat origins, "The Beast" is a satisfying action
yarn that unfortunately was never widely distributed. When Afghan
rebels find the lone tank lost in the high desert, a cat-and-mouse
chase commences with nail-biting, emotional precision. The Russian
tank crew is also at war with themselves after the sympathetic
driver (a stalwart Jason Patric) debates the brutal tactics of his
commander.
"PEARL HARBOR" OPENS MAY 25
This Summer's Most Anticipated Film
On a sleepy Sunday morning in December, as children played and
families prayed, squadrons of Japanese warplanes screamed across the
skies of a Hawaiian paradise and launched a surprise attack on the
U.S. armed forces at Pearl Harbor. The infamous day that jolted
America from peaceful isolationism to total war and altered the
course of world history is relived in "Pearl Harbor," an epic tale
of patriotism, passion, and romance. Director Michael Bay's
ambitious take on the life-changing events surrounding December 7,
1941, focuses on the war's devastating impact on two daring young
pilots (Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett) and a beautiful, dedicated
nurse (Kate Beckinsale). It's this summer's biggest movie event.
Opening May 25.

"Do The Right Thing - Criterion Collection"
..order here
Fans of the Criterion Collection already expect a DVD done the right way,
yet their two-disc sets--like Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing"--deserve
special mention. Along with a gorgeous transfer of the touchstone film,
these expanded editions really deliver in terms of extras. There's a
one-hour documentary made during production offering much more than the
packaged featurettes tucked into many "special editions," often
better-suited to "Entertainment Tonight" than a film buff's library. Also
included are home movies shot by Lee and his brother during production, a
new visit to the film's Bedford-Stuyvesant locations, and the entire
30-minute press conference for the film's Cannes Film Festival screening,
which proves a double treat: American audiences never get to see complete
Cannes coverage like this, and this particular summit presaged the movie's
tumultuous reception.
