This song was written for a workshop that I was conducting with members of the Idaho Tribes. What is the seventh fire? What significance does seven generations have? Look it up. It's worth your while. And so, this song is dedicated to the tribal folks that I have the privilege of working with: Wilma, Rhonda, Joyce, Irene, Jackienna, Larry, Rebecca, Velma, Sharon, Judy and Lannette. Also to the many partners that share the vision that I have on the welfare of tribal communities in Idaho.

Children of the Seventh Fire (2003)

I am but a child of all your yesterdays
And all the things that are yet to be
I am a river wild, a storm and peaceful days
Spirit, I have all these things in me

	And I am not alone
	My future and my past
Are like eagles, flying side by side, always higher
	And as I look around
I see that you are like me
We are Children of the Seventh Fire

A hundred years ago, I walked upon this earth
And tasted all the bounties of this land
And Spirit let me know that my day of birth
Was not a beginning, not an end, but just a plan

He said “you are not alone
	Your future and your past
Are like eagles, flying side by side, always higher
	And as you look around
	Brothers, Sisters, you will see
You are Children of the Seventh Fire”

The Sun is on the rise, the Moon has wept her tears
Old Woman of the West I’m coming home
Look deep into my eyes; look far into the years
I’m on a journey on the path that you have shown

	And I am not alone
	My future and my past
Are like eagles, flying side by side, always higher
Some come and take my hand
	The journey has begun
We are Children of the Seventh Fire
