I was up in Seattle at the annual Folk Life Festival. One of the workshops I attended was on song writing and writer's block. I used to live in Seattle years ago and somehow the fact of being back in the town reminded me of olden days, when life seemed a lot simpler. Anyway, this song was written as I mused about those simpler times. Oh yeah, I met and talked with the legendary Pete Seeger at the festival. That had to be a high point for me.

I’m a stranger in this town tonight; you know Seattle streets are cold and damp. A cold wind blows and chills me to the bone and reminds me who I was and who I am. I hear a whistle in the moonlight as I’m wading thru my second glass of beer. It’s a tune just like the ones I used to write but now my words they’ve seemed to have disappeared. (chorus) I wish I was a whistling cowboy on the plains in Idaho; back in time when I still knew wrong from right and I never had to wonder what to hide and what to show. The sun is sneaking behind the skyline the fog is laying low on Puget Sound. They beckon me to come and sing along but the phrases of my life won’t come around. (chorus)
