The Turman Hompage

Tom's Rating: 5 stars

Release Date: 6/98
Directed by: Peter Weir
Produced by: Scott Rudin ("In & Out," "Ransom,")
Starring: Jim Carrey & Ed Harris

“The Truman Show,” starring Jim Carrey and Ed Harris. I was surprised that Carrey took on this role because this movie has so many moving scenes that I didn’t think that Carrey was capable of executing. Carrey, bombed in “The Cable Guy” but he came back with the great success with “Liar Liar.” After leaving a good mark in comedy he turned to drama which I think did very well. His performance sucked me into the his character, Truman.
This movie was created by Chirtof (Ed Harris), who televised every moment of Truman’s life, from his birth to the his first steps. Chirtof made the biggest sound stage every up in the Hollywood hills where Truman’s world was. But after thirty years in this sound stage he starts to wonder....... One day a light falls from the sky (which is the part of the sound stage) getting him to think, and the everyday routine that he does is looping. So he figures to do spontaneous things, such as no to go to work and doing something different to complicated the staff of “The Truman Show.”
Christof, basically playing god to Truman. He raised him and he know everything about Truman. Even when he fears the most, water. Truman’s world, Seaheaven is surrounded by water so the staff of the show figure he would not go anywhere but they were wrong!
So if you want to see what happens to Truman go see. This movie is original and brilliant! You might think this is something you would see on MTV, The Real World, but it is totally different. Go see it! I give it 5 stars

Godzilla Hompage

Tom's Rating: 3 1/2 stars

Release Date: 5/98
Written & Directed by: ROLAND EMMERICH (creator of Independence Day)
Starring: Matthew Broderick

This movie was based on the Japanese creature that was made up after the world war was over. But Emmerich and his crew gave Godzilla a face lift, from the gental looking creature from the sea, to a half T-Rex half Raptor from the Steven Spielberg master piece "Jurrasic Park."
I was expecting more from Emmerich because of his great success with ID4. But after sitting in the theater for more than 2 hours I was tired after the first hour.
Nick Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick) was doing some research on worms and how radiation effected them, making them more than 10% bigger. This is what Tatopoulos thought happenned to Godzilla.
Well to some up the movie I give it 3 1/2 stars. (5 starts being the best) I give this rating because I give most of the credit to the special effects. The special effects in this film was AWSOME, nothing more. But the sad part about it is that Godzilla was a fire breathing creature and he only blew his fire twice in the whole entire movie. So if you are wondering in the mall and you have nothing else to do and you want something to be destoried I reccommed this movie. I hope Emmerich will do a better job next time.

The Big Hit Hompage

The team that brought you "Broken Arrow" and "Face Off," now brings you "The Big Hit." Right off the bat this movie gets 5 stars. This is one of the best action movies you will see this summer! Go see it.
Four men, Mel (Mark Wahlberg), Cisco (Lou Diamond Phillips), Crunch (Bokeem Woodbine), Vince (Antonio Sabato, Jr.) are top contract killers. But each and ever character has there problems in life. Everbody can do there jobs as hit men but other than that they are messed up! One day Cisco comes up with a plan to kidnap a rich girl who happens to be Paris', there boss,(Avery Brooks) god-daughter. While I was watching this movie the action never stopped. Kirt Wong's directing gave the movie a ride that you will nerver forget! JUST GO SEE IT!!! It's a must see movie, if you are into cool guys kicking ASS!

Deep Impact Hompage

Tom's Rating: 3 Stars

Release Date: 5/98
Directed by: Mimi Leder (director of "The Peacemaker")
Produced by: Steven Spielberg (DreamWorks Pictures), Joan Bradshaw and Walter Parkes
Starring: Robert Duvall, Téa Leoni, Elijah Wood, Vanessa Redgrave, Maximilian Schell, Leelee Sobieski and Morgan Freeman

This Mimi Leder's second film working with Steven Spielber's production company, DeamWorks. She captures the fear in everyone of us when a comet bigger than Mt. Everest is hurraling towards Earth. This movie was not just about a coment but about the survival of the human race.
When the comet was discoveried, governments all over the world was notified in order to build the biggest spaceship to distroy the comet. Robert Duvall plays a retired the astronaut to fly again into space to save the world. This brillant actor shows us his corrage and leadership to land on the comet and plant nuclear bombs on it. But once the bombs were set off the comet broke into two.
While the astronauts were doing there job out in space, people on Earth were preparing for the worst, seeking selter that the govnment made in the mountains.
But a disaster movie is not complet without a love story. Actullay it has three love stories. These seperate stories ranging from the young to the old touches us with James Horners (composer of "My Heart Will Go On" for the movie Tatanic) music. Eventhough it had great moments it lack something, I don't know what, but it did. The special effects were great but you would have to wait an hour and a half to see them. It was dirceted wonderfully but I only could give it 3 stars.
So if you want to cry, somewhat, just take peak, but don't expect much.

The Object of My Affection Homepage

Tom's Rating: 2 Stars

Release Date: 4/98
Directed by: Nicholas Hytner
Produced by: Laurence Mark
Starring: Jenifer Aniston, & Paul Rudd

This movie is only worth seeing if you are a Jennifer Aniston fan. But it seems to me that the cast of "Friends" play the same role on the small screen and on the big screen.
Jennifer Aniston plays a girl that falls in love with a complete strange at a party, but the she doesn't know that Paul Rudd's character is gay. Eventhough she knows this she tries so hard to bring him back to her "team."
Length wise it seemed just right. But after going through so much and trying so hard...... (well you'll have to see the film).
I'm sorry to all you Aniston fans but I have to she her movies are going down, I have to give this movie 2 stars. Eventhough I gave this film 2 stars that doesn't mean you shouldn't see but I recommend until it's on video. So if are in the mood to come out the theater with a smile and saying to your friends "I liked the ending....." so go check it out.

The Lost In Space Homepage

Tom's Rating: 3 1/2 Stars

Release Date: 4/98
Directed & Produced by: Stepen Hopkins (director of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 5," "Predator 2," "Blown Away," and "The Ghost and The Darkness."
Starring: Gary Oldman, William Hurt, Matt LeBlanc, Mimi Rogers

This movie, eventhough it knocked "Titanic" out of first place at the box office, it didn't live up all the hype. I'll have to give this film 3 1/2 stars.
Doctor Smith (Gary Oldman), a sell out to the Jupitor mission, finds himself sold out by his boss. Now stuck on the Jupitor spaceship he is stuck on it with a 8 feet tall robot that he re-progamed to destroy the Robinson family.
Major Don West (Matt LeBlanc), a space fighter jet piolit is stuck on the Jupitor when he is reassigned.
Well the whole movie was long but to be expected but worth seeing the great special effects. This movie is very hard to explain and if are planning to see it, see it on the big screen, but you'll have to use your brain a little to figure out all tech. stuff.
So as always if you are seeking for a wild ride and getting lost in space, then GET LOST with Robinson family. A good show and it will keep you at the edge of your seat.

The Mercury Rising Homepage

Tom's Rating: 3 Stars

Release Date: 4/98
Directed by: Harold Becker
Starring: Bruce Willis, and Alex Baldwin

This movie starting Bruce Willis plays an Federal Agent and find himself in a big mess when he is investigating a murder case. "Mercury Rising," you might think this movie is packed with action from the title but believe me it lacks a lot of action. Mercury, a super code breaker that is being developed by the Federal Government to keep track of crimials that uses the "superhigh way" to do harm.
But the creator of Mercury, challanges the general public to break a code that Mercury has developed but an eight old autistic boy broke it. This is when the Government finds themself in a squeeze. They think that the boy is a threat so they need him to be killed. Like any other Bruce Willis movie he is the one protecting the boy.
I'll have to give this movie a 3 stars. It's an Ok movie if you want sit in the theater with a thin plot, readalbe lines and scenes. So if are in the mall with your friends and if there is a girl who's a Willis fan go see it to be a friend.

The Tomorrow Never Dies Homepage

Tom's Rating: 3 Stars

Release Date: 1/98
Directed by: Roger Spottiswoode
Produced by: Michael G. Wilson
Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Jonathan Pryce, & Teri Hatcher

Pierce Brosnan is "Bond. James Bond," he is back with bader bad guy and new toys to plat with.
Eventhought "Golden Eye" bombed I think "Tomorrow Never Dies" did a lot better. With all the bad rap that Bond's car in "Golden Eye" fans got what they wanted this time around. There is a whole action sequence just for the car. The dircetor did a great job with that sequence because I bet it was hard to do in a restricted area, such as a garage.
Michelle Yeo, a beutiful woman from Hong Kong was one of the Bond Girls next to Teri Hatcher.
These two women gave the movie the special Bond romance that is one of the most important part in a Bond movie. But the equation to an action movie is the same.
Jonathan Pryce is a rich industralist who has control over satalites that controls the communication in world. But something is not complete but James Bond is there to stop him from world domination.
So if action is something to like and beautiful women is your game go see it. But I have to give it only 3 stars. Sorry, for all you Hatcher fans though.

Major League 3 Homepage

Tom's Rating: 1 1/2 stars

Release Date: 5/98
Written & Directed by: John Warren
Produced by: James G. Robinson
Starring: Scott Bakula, Corben Bernsen, Dennis Heysbert, and Takaaki Ishibashi

The last time we left off with "Major League 2," the Indians won there division title. And I thought that this time around they would win the whole thing, but it was off the minors.
With a new cast and some samiliar faces they are back and play the game again. But this time The Indains are looking at there minor league team. Scott Bakula plays a minor league pitch and in his whole life he wanted to play baseball.
Dennis Heysbert is back a Cerano the religious guy who pick up Buda from Taka (Takaaki Ishibashi). Yes, that crazy, can't act silly Japanese guy is back as well. After all the success, winning the pennent and all, he opened up a resturant / mini golf place somewhere! ok, what ever.
I'm sorry but this movie gets a very bad rating from me just because it was just STUPID! I wanted more from the director as well. If there is a "Major League 4" Hope they bring back the origial cast together, like Charlie Sheen and Wesly Snipe.
So if you are JUST BORED and your life is at the lowest just go see it, don't worry, your life is not going to get any lower! I give this movie a low 1 1/2 stars.

The U.S. Marshalls Homepage

Tom's Rating:3 stars

Release Date: 3/98
Directed by: Stuart Baird
Produced by: Anne Kopelson & Arnold Kopelson
Starring: Tommy Lee Jones, Wesley Snipes,& Robert Downey Jr.

“U.S. Marshals,” the sequel to the “Fugitive,” is an action packed movie starring Tommy Lee Jones playing the cop that never stops to get his man. And this time he is after Wesley Snipes. When I went to see this movie I thought it would be different that the first with a little twist but I was wrong. I only could give this movie 3 stars for number of reasons. Well everybody says the first one is better than the second, and they are right. “U.S. Marshals” has the same plot as the first. A man gets away and a cop that does everything to get the man he is after.
Again, Tommy Lee has the same team to get Snipes. As you would figure out Snipes is a man who escaped because he was wrongly accused and he is trying to clear his name. Over coming many twists and turns they finally find out........ ( you’ll have to see the movie)
As you know “The Fugitive” was base on a TV show and I thought to myself I was see another episode of that TV show when I came out of the theater. I walked out wanting more for my money. I couldn’t believe that a producer would OK the script to make this movie.
Even though I gave 3 stars, I give most of the credit to the action sequence. One of the most memorable scenes from the first film was the “big train wreck,” but in the “U.S. Marshals” that was substituted with a “big airplane crash,” and the rest of the movie was basically the same.
So if you are just bored and you want to see Snipes being the bad guy for a change, then go see it. I really don’t recommend this movie to an action movie freaks. Sorry!
