Beaubassin, Acadie

Beaubassin was settled by Acadians in 1672. By 1731 there were already 150 families living there. The village was located "Near the mouth of the Missaguash River on the southern side".
Beaubassin was originally named "Bourgeois Colony", having been founded by Jacques Bourgeois. His ship's pilot was Pierre Arsenault who brought the settlers up from Port Royal to establish the new colony.
With the outcome of the French & British struggle, came the orders received on August 3, 1755 for the British to imprison all the Acadian men found in the area with the aim of deporting them.
On October 13th, 1755, the first ships left with 950 men, women and children bound for South Carolina and Georgia. There was the beginning of the deportation of the Acadians which was continued until 1792.
