About the
Notts & Derby Bus Page
by Rod
Smith, Webmaster.
These Pages were created by Dave Root
and Gareth Perkins in 1998, from an earlier site with limited space
available. Dave &
Gareth are prolific Web Site producers within the Bus Enthusiast World, and have
invited
and nurtured budding Web
& Bus experts to take over and develop their own
sites.
One of the photographers
brought in to the original site, to cover Nottingham
Photo's,
was Callum
McClennan, with his talents and contacts continuing with the present
management.
This is how myself, Rod
Smith, and Simon Bramley came into expanding this Site.
We took over on October
1999, knowing nothing about Web Design, but with an idea to combine three
interests,
East Midlands Public
Transport, Photography, and Web Design.
As a friend of Simon's,
my involvement centered on my history of Semi-professional Photography, an
interest in local
history, and the desire
to learn about the Web, and Simon had the passion for Public Transport, both
current, and past,
and a need to learn more
about photography. The progression into developing this site was a matter of
timing.
Our first thought was to
start from scratch, however, on viewing the original site design by Dave &
Gareth,
we noticed that they were
asking for enthusiastic people to take over the running from them, and from a
series
of Emails, we were
eventually given the'keys' to the site, and I set about making it as inviting
and useful as I could.
The first couple of
months was a steep learning curve for me, spending many late nights 'getting it
right'.
I've come a long way
since then, I've learnt a lot, and I realise I've a lot further to
go.
Over the next year, the
page will change beyond recognition, as I put ideas and knowledge into
action, and
it will
start to look more like a
commercial Web Site, with smooth transitions, better graphical
links,
and better balanced
visuals.
Simon has a history of
involvement in preservation within Public Transport, originally using his spare
time
helping at the Heritage
Centre, Ruddington, Nottingham, and taking trips to the various Bus
Rallies
around the country, also
expanding his model collection of local fleet vehicles.
His aquaintences within
the Enthusiasts World, has meant we have a growing band of people to call
upon,
advising us of breaking
news, providing fleet histories, and giving technical
information.
As of September 2000,
our latest link up is with the Nottingham Bus Enthusiasts Group,
designing
their Web Pages,
www.nbeg.org.uk, as we provide mutual
support within our two
organisations
EDITOR'S NOTES
Well it doesn't seem two
minutes since we took over the page although in
actual fact
a good eighteen months have passed.
Ooh
scary!!!.
In case you're
wondering, I am the elusive editor of the Notts. and Derby Web
Pages,
and I thought it was about time I made myself known.
Since we took over
the page, a lot of changes have occurred
both centrally and nationally,
which explains my absence
until now.
Busy busy and all that.
We have gone through some tough
times recently but are now beginning to reap the
rewards,
with each day that passes another change occurs and another
chapter
opens
in our history. Hopefully the page will continue to grow and expand, with
more
changes planned and a lot of things happening in the
Midlands we have a lot to do so
watch this
space.
Finally I would like to say two
big thank-you's firstly to my friend and
colleague
Rod
who has worked so hard to keep us on track despite our
moans and groans at each
other he still puts up with me. I
don't know how he does it. Thanks Rod.
Secondly to you out there the
enthusiast. We couldn't do it without you, many thanks
and
keep watching.
Regards,
Simon
