Trying to describe yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth. My name is Melanie, named after Melanie in GONE WITH THE WIND, middle aged (I'll leave it at that) live in Delaware, formerly in Providence, Rhode Island. I am single without children, have four cats--plus numerous strays and squirrels I feed. I'm quite artistic, love animals, am a kind person--would pull my car over at 2:00 a.m. to help a turtle cross the road (well, if I could see it) I have a beautiful Victorian home furnished with everything from period antiques, art deco to contemporary. My yard is great--mature trees, a koi pond, a secret garden and lots of flowers.


Things I like include, the first daffodil, the first snowfall, Autumn, compliments, the zoo, baby animals, old animals and old people's memories, old twisted gnarled Arthur Rackam type trees, violets, secrets, presents, Christmas eve, Halloween, old black and white photos, glitter, carnival lights, fireworks, flickering candles in the dark, a fire in the fireplace on a snowy day, homemade ice cream, men who whistle while they work, finding things I've lost, antique shops, vintage clothes, old illustrated children's books, bubble baths, hot tubs, chocolate milk shakes, surf and turf, lobster, walking barefooted on the beach on warm night with someone special, Saturdays, free stuff, expensive cars, the sound of the surf at night, warm towels out of the dryer, cafés and coffee houses, dinners for two, picnics, exotic hide-aways, Japanese lanterns lighting a summer's night party, dragonflies, fireflies, rainbows, rides in the country, clouds, the sound of a train in the distance at night, fog, the moon, rain--rain dropping on a tin roof, waterfalls, the forest, the smell of flowers and peaches, turkey roasting, chocolate, whipped cream, jasmine tea, dimples, old friends I've met along the way--some I'll never see again, James Dean, Sean Connery, Andrea Bocelli, Emmylou Harris, Edgar Allan Poe, Clark Gable, Jeff Chandler, Kevin Costner, Gone With the Wind, Seinfeld, old b & w movies, crying in movies, laughing hysterically, orangatans, monkeys, chimps, smiles, watching people tango, kissing the back of a baby's neck, a newborn's hands, the ocean, and memories of my family. ~~and, although I'm no longer six, I still wish I could fly.~~




I dislike rap music, action movies, spitting, vinyl anything, bulldozers/"progress", destruction and development of the countryside, tearing down quaint or historical buildings, hunting animals, bad news, fast food, crowds, traffic jams, little kids with a whistle, stepping on slugs in your bare feet, people who try to impress me, inappropriate clothes, vulgarity, tattoos, pierced tongues, gangs, neon hair, bad grammar, losing things, getting out of a hot shower into a cold room, people who talk too much, people who are mean, selfish, unjust, liars, thieves, loud, cruel to animals, broken hearts and shattered dreams, tail-gaters; those who travel in the passing lane and those who don't agree with me (just kidding).
