(Yhes Montend) ~ Middle age is that time of life when a woman won't tell her age and a man won't act his. ~ Italian men respect their wives, spoil their mistresses, but the only woman they ever love is their mother. ~ If a man marries a woman and thinks she'll stay the same, he's a fool. If a woman marries a man and thinks he'll change, she's a fool. ~ Men are better at reading road maps because they are so good at changing an inch into a mile. ~ There's nothing more appealing to a man than a woman he can't have. ~ Everything is okay in the end. Of all the words of tongue and pen, the saddest of these--it might have been.

The longest trip I ever took by land, or sea or sky, was from closed door to empty chair the night you said goodbye. (Anonymous)

COMES THE DAWN

After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and sharing a life, and you learn that love doesn't mean possession, and company doesn't mean security, and loneliness is universal. And you learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises, and you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open with the grace of a woman--not the grief of a child. And you learn to build your hope on today, as the future has a way of falling apart in mid-flight because tomorrow's ground can be too uncertain for plans, yet each step taken in a new direction creates a path toward the promise of a brighter dawn.

And you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much, so you plant your own garden and nourish your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that love, true love, always has joys and sorrows, seems ever present, yet is never quite the same, becoming more than love and less than love, so difficult to define. And you learn that through it all you really can endure, that you really are strong, that you do have value, and you learn and grow with every goodbye you learn.

(Joy Whitman, Author)

Human relationships never live up to human desires. ~ Love creates all kinds of fantasies. ~ A bird and a fish can fall in love, but where would they build their nest? ~ In love there are two things--bodies and words. (Joyce Carol Oates) ~ A man can be happy with any woman as long as he doesn't love her.(Oscar Wilde) ~ Kindness is loving people more than they deserve. ~ What some hearts desire, they must possess. What they cannot possess, they must destroy. ~ The memory of a love shouldn't make you unhappy the rest of your life. ~ Men--you can't live with them--you can't chop them up in little pieces. ~ One of the greatest disappointments in life is loving someone and they are unable to fulfill your needs. A greater disappointment is loving someone and you are unable to fulfill their needs. ~

Life is too long for those who grieve; too short for those who rejoice; but for those who love, life is an eternity. (Lady Diana's sister at her funeral)

Once, when I was young and true, Someone left me sad--Broke my brittle heart in two; And that is very bad. Love is for unlucky folk, Love is but a curse, Once there was a heart I broke; And that, I think, is worse.

Dorothy Parker

BUTTERFLIES

But if you try to close such lightness in your hand -this butterfly - you'll bruise its wings. Butterflies and love are fragile things, meant to be free. Open your hand--see how exquisitely the wings expand.

Elinor Comegys--a neighbor
