In light of all
of the school killings and other acts of violence
that have taken place recently around the
globe, many people
have speculated on what the cause may be.
At a very young age,
we need to teach our children acceptance
& tolerance. While
this certainly isn't the whole answer to
the problem, it is very
important that we teach and instill tolerance
in our children.
Our society has taken bigotry & intolerance
for granted for so
long that it is difficult work to keep
our children from following
in the footsteps of past generations.
But, it is possible. There
is no reason to keep the cycle of hatred
growing. We can work
with today's children to end it once and
for all.
There are so many forms of intolerance.
Hate, it's not a family
value, it is however learned. Teaching
our children that
diversity is not a bad thing & then
prove we really believe it by
setting an example. We don't have
to believe IN everything that
everyone else believes, accepting another's
individuallity and
freedom to choose who they are is a step
in the direction.
What causes intolerance, unacceptance is
our own fears and
lack of knowledge. To enable ourselves
to be capable of
teaching our own youth how to be tolerant
& accepting is
actually very easy, some just make it hard
... all it takes to
be a person who is able to accept others
differences is the
ability to choose not to stop learning
or growing, to keep
our minds open, be willing to see the good
in others and
see that each person we encounter is a
teacher. This does
not just mean adults, it means our children,
our teenagers,
they are just as able to teach as any adult.
Intolerance, hatered, bigotry, there truly
is an easy way
to abolish them, and it's not something
that is difficult
to grasp or teach, it's this simple, treat
each person in
the same way in which you wish to be treated.
Yes, it's
also true it may take practice, if this
is something that
is taught to our children from the time
they are born,
just maybe in our lifetime we will see
an and to all forms
of hatered.
