Stimulants, such as cocaine, are very dangerous drugs. They are very heavily used today. Some of the street names that people use today are: speed, uppers, uppies, cocoa puffs, coke, heaven dust, ice, nose candy, snow, snow caine, snow flake, stardust, crystal meth, cocaine and crack.
Cocaine and amphetamines produce a feeling that there are no problems. A feeling of super strength and absolute self-confidence may also be present. Stimulant users tend to become hyperactive, nervous, extremely talkative and unable to stand still. Stimulants also tend to release the user's inhibition, and to impair the user's ability to concentrate or to think clearly for any length of time. Persons under the influence of stimulants become easily confused and lose the ability to concentrate or to think clearly for any length of time. Stimulants can also make a person feel "weird"-talkative, excited, restless, irritable, anxious or moody. If the drug is injected into your veins, the person will feel a "rush" of elation and confidence. They may also feel confused, ramble or speak incoherently, feel a lot of anxiety, suffer from headaches, and palpitatons. The effects of stimulants vary from 5 minutes to several hours, depending on which type of CNS stimulant is used. With cocaine, there is also an anesthetic effect.
Overdose of CNS stimulants can replace the euphoric effect with feelings of panic. The user may become very confused, and suddenly aggressive. They can suffer convulsions, and possibly faint or pass into a comma. Heartbeat will increase, possibly dramatically, and heart arrhythmia (irregular beating) may develop. This may lead to cardiac arrest. Death can also occur from sudden respiratory failure.

Cocaine is a drug made from coca plant. It is a stimulant, though it is much shorter acting. Cocaine produces sensations of alertness, confidence, and well being. This drug can also lead to compulsive use or dependence. Cocaine hydrochloride is a white powder that can be sniffed or injected. Crack cocaine is cocaine hydrohloride that has been chemically altered to form crystals that can be smoked.
Injecting cocaine is very risky. The dose reaches the brain almost immediately, increasing the possibility of overdose or seizure. Impurities are introduced directly into the blood stream. Injecting cocaine can cause damage to the veins. Sharing syringes can cause hepatitis and HIV infection.
Cocaine and crack are very short acting, this can lead the user to keep chasing the initial rush. Cocaine produces tolerance which means that the user must keep taking larger amounts to get the same effect. High doses can cause overdose, or loss of contact with reality. Cocaine users may also become compulsive.
