Fort McHenry

Harbor Fortifications

Fort McHenry is constructed in the shape of a star. This type of fortification was the standard of the time around the early 1800's. By the time of the Civil War - forts such as this were no longer effective because the artillery was using projectiles which could easily breach the walls. Most of the artillery present today consists of rodman guns which were common to the Civil War.
