Islamic Religious Manuscript Fragment

Egypt, probably Fustat (Old Cairo)
11th - 14th Century C.E.
(5th - 7th Century A.H.)







Fragment Dimensions:

    9.4 cm wide x 9.6 cm high

Description:     
    Incomplete manuscript fragment.
    Thick greyish-tan colored paper.
    Paper is torn and crushed.
    Top edge of fragment appears to have been cut.
     

RECTO
       
    Nine lines of text written in Maghribi script using dark 
    brown ink.
    Diacritical marks used.
    Large dark brown ink stain along right side (faint traces of
    writing can be seen under the stain).
    
VERSO

    Three lines of text (two written between horizontal lines 
    and one below) using dark brown ink written in a thick 
    Maghribi script.
    The ink on the horizontal lines shows signs of cracking and
    flaking.
    Several dark brown ink stains (finger prints ?) across surface.
