This was the most packed that I have ever seen the church. There were kids running around looking for tickets (the show was sold out) and just general disarray. Of course we were let in more than an hour late, too (around 3.30). Once inside, the scene did not change. There was hardly any breathing room, and everyone was clamouring the KD table for last show t-shirts. Fasttimes went on, and the mess ensued. Luckily they brightened my mood with some in your face girl led hardcore. Their singer is what Gwen Stefani could be if she tried.
Grey Area, from NYC, were also quite good. I had not heard them before, but I left a fan. Reminded me on A New Found Glory and the ilk, plus they were very interactive, allowing some kids to join in on the vocals. Kill Your Idols, popular with the hardcore kids, are another bunch from Jersey (Fasttimes included), but were a bit too macho for me. Seem like nice guys though.
Philly favourites, Kid Dynamite took the stage, and immediately launced into their career ending set with the first three tunes from their first album. The hour plus set (quite long for a hardcore band) featured tunes from both albums, plus the split with 88 Fingers Louie, and a cover or two. For most of the show, the pit was crazy. I was engulfed in it for the first seven songs before I made the decision to get out and retreat to the back. I smelled of sweaty hardcore kids and feared for the life of my glasses. The set was good, and one song included vocal help from the lead singers of Fasttimes and Kill Your Idols. KD may not have been the best hardcore group out there, but at least they knew what the hardcore spirit was about and were able to carry it well throughout their lifespan. RIP.
