Jets to Brazil/Burning Airlines/Jimmy Eat World/The Promise Ring

The dumbest thing I ever did in my life was not calling off of work the
night of this show. The luckiest thing that happened to me was that I
only had to work until 5.30 the night of this show, so I had plenty of
time to get to Philly. All was set, I finished the slave wage, then I
was on my way to Philly to see this great four band bill. Upon entering
the door(around 8), I snatched up a Promise Ring shirt, Jets to Brazil
had already finished their set, and Burning Airlines had just begun. J.
Robbins raged through the songs like a tidal wave. The spirit of Jawbox
is living on. At the time I knew not one Burning Airlines song, but I
knew that I would soon love them all. In the background I could see all
of the new Promise Ring fans waiting impatiently outside for all of
these "shit" bands to get off of the stage.
Next up was Jimmy Eat World, who also played a ferocious set. My
favorite song of the night was "Crush", but the rest of the songs were
damn good, too. I did not own any of their albums before this show, but
the Friday after this show, I was sure to pick up "Static Prevails"...a
super album that should be required by state law for all to own.
Capping off the night was The Promise Ring. They took no time screwing
around and drove right into "Is This Thing On?" and then "Perfect
Lines". Davey stopped and talked to the crowd a little and then said he
was going to continue on with the thing he had started, hence "Red and
Blue Jeans" was played. They stuck to songs from the "Nothing Feels
Good" album throughout the night with two forays into "A Picture
Postcard" and "Everywhere in Denver". The funniest thing of the night
was a group of hecklers in the corner that were hassling Davey. It was
so damn funny cuz Davey didnt give a damn, yet they kept it up--the
whole night. Oh yeah, before I left I got another Promise Ring shirt. Go
ahead, laugh:P

go back now.:
