My girlfriend and I had a huge trek from West Chester to Princeton to see Sarge at their only all ages show in the area, but we got there easily and safely. When we got there we sat down in the no smoking room and were talking to Rainer Maria's merch guy fro awhile until Bill from RM came up to us and started talking to us while flipping through the new "Deal With It". We both agreed that we didn't like Kid Dynamite, and we went onto talk about Joan of Arc and the hygiene practices of Hot Water Music. A little later we noticed that the Sarge table was set up and Sue was working it, so we went over and got our shirts and I introduced myself, she is a very down to earth and intelligent person, originally from the Philly area, too!
Enon was first and I was determined not to like them because they were keeping me from RM and Sarge, but I ended up loving them. A schizophrenic Devo is what they reminded me of, and no wonder, they were comprised of former members of Brainiac. Rainer Maria was up next, and I was really looking forward to them. I saw them once before in July (with Joan of Arc) in DC and they totally rocked the 40+ crowd there. They opened with two new songs, including the sublimely wonderful "Broken Radio", and then ripped right in to "Tinfoil". Kyle is the king of guitar gymnastics, bouncing all over without touching a soul. They also played "Half Past April" and a vicious version of "Put Me To Sleep" off of the first album along with three other new songs. I was hoping for "Sickbed", but they didn't play it...second time this happened. I am still considering driving to Lebanon tonight to see them in hopes of hearing "Sickbed".
The moment had arrived when it was Sarge's turn to play. I was so excited, but my girlfriend, Rebekah, was ever much so. She was practically glowing, it made me smile. They started with a new one and then went into "Homewrecker". The band created new meanings for the words tight and incredible, and it was wonderful being two feet in front of them. There are going to be some great pictures on this page! For the rest of the set, they played one off of "Charcoal", two more new ones, "Stalls", "Fast Girls", "Half as Far", and ended with the wonderful "Beguiling". A brief, however great set.
We left (with Tim, who was also there), quickly after the show beacuse we were anticpating getting home around 3, but Rebekah and I went back in to talk to Elizabeth, who was so very nice. I would have enjoyed talking to her more, but I was (yawn) so tired.
