The semester ended over a week ago and I've been totally lazy since then. My days consist of time in front of the TV and computer, and a small bit of reading. I have no energy to work on the 'zine or even pack for the roadtrip. I even thought about not going to this show, but that would have been a mistake.
I don't remember what time I arrived, but I once I walked into 4040, Pam ran up to me to say hi. The Thrones were on, and they were just loud and bad, so we decided to get something to eat. When we got back, Pig Destroyer was on and they were even worse. On top of not being able to play any intelligible songs, their name is kind of lame. They should change it to "Test of Patience". It is more of a "hardcore-sounding" name, plus that is exactly what they were, a test of my patience.
We ran up to the front for Camera Obscura, who drilled into their set very quickly. Michelle, their keyboardist, was absent, but the three guys made up for her absence admirably. The new material was fierce, and quite dancey, too. Karate was ended the night with a set of primarily new material, and a few selections from "The Bed is in the Ocean". The new stuff carries on the same, moody sound Karate has been creating since their inception, and the jazzy-feel that Geoff Farina has been throwing into the mix recently is very noticeable. A great show that was unfortunately scheduled the same night as an Elliott Smith show across town.
